and tell us how you manage to fulfill your duties with the board moving at its usual sloth-on-thorazine pace? Does the system recognize your modness and bump your requests to the head of the queue, or do you suffer the multi-minute page-loads and frequent timeouts the rest of us endure? If the latter, how many more hours has that added to your mod day and how happy are you about it?
Recognize our “modness?” Nope, 'fraid not. We fight for the same resources you do and get no prioritization. Hell, some of the posters don’t even recognize our “modness.”
How many hours has it added to the day? Not a lot really. I’ve usually tried to do most of my mod duties early in the morning anyway. Also, I simply don’t move as many threads as I used to. That’s probably what disturbs me the most, the gradual erosion of the sandbars 'tween fora.
Keep in mind, too, that when we can’t get on, neither can anyone else. If nobody can get through, then we don’t need to do anything about what they’re not posting.
Generally I do the boards quite late at night, or very early in the morning, depending on how you look at it. Since I frequently use the Search feature to look up posters, I just wouldn’t be able to do much in the daytime. Since I’m a night owl anyway, this works out for me. When I am up in the daytime, I just don’t really bother with the SDMB, as I’ve found that I get a “Connection timed out” or “DNS server” error more often than not. This does NOT put me in the proper mood to moderate, though it DOES put me in just the right mood to search out trolls.
Is there a super secret link that mods get that shows them the new posts so they don’t have to wade through the boards looking for them? Those red folders aren’t particularily indicative.
I know some boards, mine does, let you click a link to ‘show new messages in all forums since last visit’.
