Any Indiana Dopers - Wanna Go To The Fair?

Well, that’s pretty self-explanatory.

Anybody wanna go with us?

No, but just curious, is this a state fair or a county fair?

This is the state fair - and “A Prairie Home Companion” is going to be there - I’m still trying to decide if I want to splurge on the tickets!

When are you going? I’m working a couple of shifts on the beverage-container recycling crew, but I can never get enough fair food! Funnel cakes and lemon shake-ups - YUM!

Winkie, we haven’t decided yet. Possibly this Sunday (the 10th).

Ah, the Indiana State Fair. I used to go every year.

Now that I’ve moved 2500 miles away it’d be a bit hard for me to go. Take a stroll through the show barns and check out the massive Belgians (horses, not people) and buy a little rock candy for me, will yah?

[sub][Charlotte’s Web]“A fair is a veritable smorgasboard, smorgasboard, smorgasboard, after the gates have shut…each night, when the lights go out it can be found, on the ground, all around, oh! what a ratly feast…”[/sub][/Charlotte’s Web]

Will do, will do! I’d be glad to send you some rock candy, if you’d like. Do you have a favorite color/flavor?

I’ve been every year since my mom was pregnant with me (no joke!)

I’m an Illinois doper; must you tempt me so, with funnel cakes and such? It would only be, what, like 4 hours to drive. . .

I was thinking about going this weekend myself.
I took the train down last year. I love stopping traffic in Castelton. [Homer]MMMMmmm, deep fried snickers…[/Homer]

Do you still check out the animals at all? I did once ten years ago, and never want in a barn again.

I go for the animals, the food, the Home and Family Arts building, and Pioneer Village. I’m not into the midway anymore, except for a ride or two on occasion. We’re in Broad Ripple, so the train would be pretty pointless for us.

Laura, shall I mention elephant ears, grilled corn, dipped in melted butter, steak sandwiches from the Cattlemens’ tent, turkey legs, Pineapple Whips from the Dole booth shaped like a pineapple, saltwater taffy … If you really wanna come and would need a place to crash Sunday night, we’ve got a spare room.

Ack!!! :: drooling commences :: Sadly the only way I could justify all the eating the fair would inspire is if I walked both ways. Nay, jogged.

It looks like I’m not going to get my yearly dose of funnel-cake-and-lemon-shake-up. WinkieHubby had kidney tranplant surgery on Sunday- YAY!

I have informed him that he is messing with the fair, but he shows no remorse at all. Some people …

For the record, the new item this year in the “what can we drop into the vat of boiling oil that’s been in 18 states this summer” category is…<drum roll>…Twinkies.

Yeah, I’ve heard about the Twinkies. I’ve also heard to ignore the calorie counter in the Star this morning!

Oh good lord in heaven.
