Greetings from the Minnesota State Fair!

Well, at least the hotel I’m staying in after spending all day at the fair. Anise and I decided to take a week off and drive up to Minneapolis(from Nashville) to see some things, specifically the fair. It’s big. Really big. And I saw the least nutrious thing ever: Deep-Fried candy bars. Snickers, 3 Musketeers, and Milky Way specifically. Would’ve tried one if I wasn’t on Weight Watchers.

Go to Machinery Hill, see the tractors. Go to the barns, see the 4H kids with their livestock: goats, cows, pigs, chickens; if it can live on a farm, it’s there.

Enjoy!

I went to the Iowa State Fair in 98; it was great! You could get a pork chop on a stick, and there was a lady who does sculptures out of butter, including a huge cow and a bust of then-President Clinton, but the best part by far was the livestock.

There were cows and pigs and horses, of course, but also ostriches and peacocks and miniature horses (the size of medium-sized dogs) and llamas and all kinds of exotic animals I’d never seen before.

PLUS the biggest bull in Iowa, who weighed 3,000 pounds, and the biggest hog in Iowa, Hogzilla, who weighed in at a relatively svelte 1,000 pounds.

I’m so jealous! Have a ball! And if you see pork chops on sticks, get one!

Get off the damn computer and go have fun!!! Geez, some people don’t know how to vacation

gasp! I went to the MN Fair today, too! It’s one of my last things to do on vacation in MN every summer (I spend half the summer every year with my aunt and uncle in Minneapolis even though I live in Milwaukee.) You should be glad that you got here after the PGA craziness was done! (Well, I guess if you’re staying in the Cities it wouldn’t matter too much. But the west suburbs haven’t seen anything like it, traffic-wise.)
Did you get a look at the Princess Kay carving? The runner-up in '99 was a friend of a friend of mine (I know you are jealous now! )

I’m heading out there next weekend and even though I’m a Weight Watcher, I WILL have a deep-fried candy bar - Snickers, baby!! Pork chop on a stick will also be consumed.

At the State Fair, WW does not exist.

The MN State Fair will have Mac&Cheese on a stick, too. I am not quite sure how they will do that, but I’m going to check out the band Manplanet next Wed, and do some investigating.

I’ve heard the macaroni and cheese on a stick is awesome, rubesbaby…

Let’s both report back on that grub, whatchasay?

My arteries are clogging just reading this thread

<hijack> HomeSlice, love the handle. I call people that all the time, along with HomeChicken. </hijack>

Yes, I am the coolest person you know.

Well, rubesy, it looked more like “tortellini on a stick” this morning on the KMSP morning show. I think the cheese was inside the pasta. And then deep-fried.

Of course, the camera focused too much on Chef Andrew’s “yummy” faces than the food, so it was hard to tell. I will report back after my own trip to the fair.

PS: The “stir fry on a stick”? It’s just an eggroll.

I have been to the Fair since Christina Aguilera was there. What year was that, anyway?

So I’m probably not going this year. No one wants to go with me!

:tear:

I’ve never had the deep-fried candy bars. I always assumed I’d experience heart failure no more than 5 minutes later. :shrugs:  Always loved the corndogs though.

I haven’t. HAVE NOT. Been to the fair since she was there.

:sigh:

Silver Fire, Caldazar and I plan on going next Saturday…wanna come with?

The deep-fried candy bar tastes like a huge chocolate chip cookie. Which is a shame, cos they’re right across the street from Sweet Martha’s, and I can’t leave the fair without a bucket of Sweet Martha’s cookies

And this year I WILL get a yard stick. A real one, not those flimsy little things everyone passes out. It used to be you couldn’t get away from the yard stick, but now that I want one no one gives them out anymore :frowning:

Sadly, I sleep all day on Saturdays. And I work Saturday nights. :frowning:

If I went, it’d probably be on a Monday.

I’m taking the day off on Tuesday to go! Can’t wait. I lubs me some state fair.

Nope.
Not me.
I used to like going to the fair, back when I liked people.
If I must go, I will (ie if LittleMiss begs, pleads, whines).

oh…Sweet Martha’s…anyone willing to pick me up a bucket?

Please?

Pretty please?

I’ll trade my real yardstick from last year!

I, we, may or may not go to the Fair this year.

My arteries are pretty clogged as it is, but I could still go for some cheese curds.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, cheese.

MissTake, we just might be able to work out a deal, here…Are you between the fairgrounds and St. Cloud?

Kinda sorta, chique (west of cities, actually)

Now, wouldn’t the state fair make a good DopeFest?

I can’t believe I said that.
