Any indicators on how much the value of syndicated Seinfeld has dropped, if at all?

Since, you know… Just wondering how much the incident has affected the Seinfeld franchise. May be a bit early to tell, but I can’t watch it without feeling a bit peevish, to be honest. What a douche!

Well, if it 's mainly the black demographic they’re concerned about, losing that viewership probably won’t be much of an impact at all. Given it’s overwhelmingly angsty white, urban Jewish-centric Larry David flavored sensibilities, just as a wild assed guess I don’t think Seinfeld ever registered very high (on average) as a favored rerun for black people.

Sony owns the syndication rights in a long term deal for which they paid $1.7 billion. It’ll be a long, long time before the issue ever comes up, if at all.

Stations that bought the package also buy long-term contracts for exclusivity. Again, it’s unlikely that they will test the market soon either.

Hope it’s OK if I tag on a little hijack, but it’s sorta related.

How much do Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer get from residuals? I assume that ever since the Gilligan’s Island debacle (where supposedly none of the stars got a nickel, or, at least, not too much more than that) that the key players on Seinfeld had a clause in their contracts guaranteeing ongoing payment from residuals when the show became syndicated. What ballpark do you think we’re talking about here? $100K per year? Less? More? As you can see, I really don’t have a clue.

Thanks.

Heh, surely more than the black demographic were upset over Richard’s tirade.
