Must admit I’ve been left behind this whole Ipod revolution – I only need speak to my sixteen year old to see what a fossil I’ve become. Since he’s not around at the time – lives with his Mom in Boca – I was wondering if there’s aby legal software (or way) that would allow me to transfer the tunes in my Nano directly into my other computers.
Again, this whole thing is fairly new to moi, but my prior MP3 player (Scandisk became another drive betwen machines – I just can’t seem to find the same compatibilty w/Nano.
So, question remains as posed: is there any legal software that can allow me to use my Nano in similar fashion?
Thanx in advance.
I like Anapod Explorer, but EphPod is free.
Thank you! Threre’s an Og!
Looking into both right away.
Thanks again.
I have “disk usage” enabled on my iPod nano (it’s configurable with iTunes), and I can just open the thing up in Explorer - all the music is in iPod_Control\Music. Granted, it all has funny filenames, like WQRG.mp3, but all the ID3 tag info is there.
Anyway, if it’s your music collection, there’s no illegal way to transfer it to another of your computers. AFAIK, you have the right to play your music on devices of your choosing. Until the day comes when the RIAA finally makes it a capital crime to do anything but purchase a separate copy of each song for every iPod, cassette player, PC, 8-track player, and gramophone that you own, you should be in the clear for listening to music that you purchased.
(Also, I don’t know of any such thing as illegal software, either. Hmmm… that might be another interesting GQ…)
I got the Anapod Explorer. They have a especific edition for the Nano, and although, as with all software, I still have to play around with it, I’ve already downloaded the stuff I had on it – also added the songs to ITunes afterwards.
Pretty straight forward, worth the $25 IMHO. Just PO’d that I couldn’t download my junk from the Nano.
Oh yeah, all my music is mine – I think my newest CD dates back to 1998 or threabouts
