Haven’t seen much discussion of it here but it seems like a show that Dopers would love. Which I base exclusively in the fact that I love it.
A Wired article explaining why some of us love this show.
So any love here?

You know I do, baby.
From what I’ve noticed, despite its rampant nerdery, the Dope doesn’t talk toons much. You’re probably better off checking fan sites, tvtropes, or even /co/.
GF is top tier and another in a line of good new Western animated shows in the last couple years. They pulled a coup when they stole Rob Renzetti from DHX. I don’t think it’s possible to not love Mabel Pines.
Ha! I LOVE Gravity Falls. Ran into it while channelflipping (a rare activity lately), liked it, saw another, and BOOM had to see them all.
Yeah, the continuity is impressive. Gives plenty rewatch value. And the gags are still funny the second time around. Credit to the voice actors, who have comic timing to die for.
“I was just reading…‘Gold Chains for Old Men’ magazine…??”
“Oh, yeah, that’s a good issue.”
Meh. Its a kids show. Its probably at the top of what is being produced for kids but thats about it. I don’t hate it when my kids have it on.
My wife and I watch it with our 12-year-old daughter. We look forward to seeing new episodes. It’s pretty funny. I loved the copying machine one when the copier got jammed. i crack up whenever I see the defective copy.
Your loss IMHO.
The best of the great cartoons throughout time were, IMHO, great because they could be appreciated at many levels. Yes, this show works as a simple kids show for a young child with little attention. And for older kids who will get some of the jokes. And for many adults who will pick up on some of the other references. And for fans who totally geek out and go back and still frame to find clues and realize how so much of what seemed like a quick throw away is actually integral to a bigger plot line or is later important. I catch a few little bits of the depth with most of it going over my head, some of them pointed out to me later by my 18 y.o. who surfs the sites that decode the ciphers list all the details. I love a show that functions as a funny goofy kids show while at the same time is smarter than me! (Easy set up noted. :))
I’ve seen a few episodes. I dig it. I just haven’t been compelled to seek it out on a regular basis.
We just started catching up on this last week and are addicted. And now that we’ve discovered the embedded ciphers, I’m teaching the kids about cryptography.
I’ve been enjoying watching it with my daughter.
Hey! First post here on this website. Lucky dog, having the thread that someone posts on first.
Love all around for the show. I watch it on occasion, and have heard that the Brothers Chaps are involved. Homestar Runner was an amazing experience growing up. Hearing that they were involved in Gravity Falls made me excited to watch it more. Story and character development wise, it’s got a variety of personality and interesting character design and keeps the show fresh and hysterical. Got a lady crush on Mabel. Her ugly sweaters are so damn attractive.
I “like” the show. I don’t build my day around it, but given most of the stuff on the air these days, I will watch it if the set is on, and I have no other plans.
You sneeze like a kitten!
So I’ve finished Season One and have to say I really love this show - a bit of Phineas and Ferb, some Twin Peaks, and some X-Files. There’s also a lot of hidden stuff going, not limited to the aforementioned ciphers.
For fans like Dseid: if you skip the first couple of minutes of this video, it does a good job of unpeeling some of the hidden messaging:
I like it, though I prefer Kim Possible & Phineas And Ferb.
