Any love for The Player?

If you haven’t caught this show, it’s apparently like somebody decided to make a version of Burn Notice but out west and with a lot less humor.

Which sounds like I’m damning it with faint praise but actually it’s growing on me. The first episodes were uneven and the main character seemed like a brick with a face, but it’s seems to be developing better. The five episodes released are still free on Hulu if you care to watch them.

Very short version is that there’s a metaplot involved dangerous super-rich gamblers, the show is mostly an excuse plot. Dave Danger has three days to rescue so-and-so, defeat the villains, and save the world! Also, the show may possibly be an attempt to bail out the entire North American stuntman’s union, if there is one. It falls very much into the action genre.

NBC just cut the number of episodes down to 9 from 13 so it probably won’t be around for long

Figures. I was enjoying this show.

I loved the Tim Robbins movie.

We’ve been watching. We also thought it was a lot like “Burn Notice”. It’s not exactly what you watch to unwind after a stressful day, unless non-stop action with a side of paranoia is what lowers your blood pressure. It’s kinda fun. Better than “Minority a Report”, about the same as “Blind Spot”

I tried watching one episode and found it kind of unpleasant, sorry.

I watched the first two episodes and quit during the third. I didn’t hate it, but neither the premise nor the execution really inspired me to keep watching.

I’m watching it. Every time I see it in my TiVo list I think, “Am I really still watching that show?” I tend to put off watching the episode, but then after I do I think, “Ok, that was entertaining enough, I’ll keep watching.”

Gorgeous/smart/tough-chick characters usually annoy me, but for some reason I like Cassandra.

Also, it was fun to see a shirtless Nick Wechlser (from Revenge) again.

I started one ep but need to devote a weekend day to binge-watching on On Demand. I’ve loved Wesley Snipes deeply and abidingly so I have to give it a chance.
