(Sorry to those who didn’t see the show - i’ll look online for the script at lunch…)
Last night (11/19) the South Park episode was about a Mormon family who moved into town. One of the kids made friends with one of the South Park boys. The family told the story of Joseph Smith; gold plates, seeing stones, etc.
Although the story was obviously somewhat of a caricature, and from a non-LS perspective, were the facts basically true? I’m hoping for a somewhat unbias (if possible) opinion here.
TVAA, I am not asking whether the story is true. I could ask that of just about every religion “story” I’ve ever heard. Instead I am asking what you restated better than I: whether it “was essentially a fair representation of the beliefs of the LDS Church”
I have not done LDS, but as far as I remember this is pretty close to the story I heard in school. I don’t remember the details like the seeing stones, or looking into a hat while another translated. Also I don’t remember the hiding of one translation as a test. That I found quite interesting.
But the intriguing thing was the end where they basically said I don’t care if you believe a particular myth. I was only nice to you and you blew me off. S$%^ % %##s!
Its like they made fun of the myth and then made fun of everybody who is put off by the myth. Very funny!
