A friend of mine told me that she’s going to see the Asian XI play the International XI at the MCG this afternoon. The aim of the match is to raise funds for the victims of the tsunami. Any Melbourne dopers going?
I haven’t got a ticket (it’s sold out), but I’m a member. I’m at work, so if I hear during the afternoon that the members’ area isn’t full, I’ll pop down this evening.
I wanted to, but this little thing called work got in the way.
My dad, brother, grandpa and cousin are all there, and I’m watching on TV (the match is sold out, so their showing it live in Melbourne).
As it stands, the world XI has just finished their innings. Who would have thought that you would ever see Lara, Ponting, Cairns & Gilchrist batting together. Magic.
I don’t really care who wins - I almost hope that the aisian XI get up - especially when you hear some of the stories about their friends and families getting caught up in the tsunami.
It’s pretty cool that it’s being broadcast to over a billion people too.
I really hope they make a heap of money for the appeal - I guess if you just calculate the gate takings ($20 by ~78000 people), that’s a pretty darn good start.
You’d only see ME at a live cricket match if it was Jesus’ team batting against Satan’s Eleven. I reckon that watching the cricket is the most vile penance that any depraved soul should ever have to endure.
I did happen to catch a couple of overs on the telly though.
Apparently it’s raised around $3.5 million so far. Not bad for an afternoon mostly spent rubbing balls on your crotch.
The final total was $14.6 million, which is pretty good.
