Any news on the next RJ or Martin books?

That’s Robert Jordan and George RR Martin, if you’re confused. I just checked www.tor.com, where I’ve found news in the past, but they have nothing. I think I heard from somewhere that the next Martin book should be…either this summer or next - I forget. But I can’t remember where I heard that.

Oh, and please refrain from telling me how bad Jordan’s books are. I’m well aware of their shortcomings and flaws, but I enjoy them anyway. In fact, I had given the series one more book to get back on track, and I think the last book did that. Very little sniffing and skirt-twitching, and the plot finally advanced. Plus Rand got some action. Except he spent too much time with Perrin chasing his wife. I like Perrin, but Faile can go hang as far as I’m concerned. In fact, I wish she would, because that would cause Perrin to go bitchcakes and kick all kinds of ass, which would be fun to see. Anyway, sorry - where was I? Oh, yeah. Please, no discussion of the Jordan books.

JORDAN SUX!

Seriously, I dunno about Jordan, but, IIRC the next Martin book is due out this Summer. It’s an unplanned addition the story, which was originally only going to be six books, with a (20? 30?) year gap between books 3 and 4. Somewhere along the way, he decided to add one more book to the series, that’ll fill in that (20? 30?) year gap: that’s the book that’ll be coming soon.

I also heard a completely unsubstatiated rumor a while back that when the whole thing was said and done, he was going to go back and do a the story of how…um…whatshisname…the guy who was King at the beginning of the book, and Papa Stark overthrew the old monarch. But he was going to do it in a much more traditional fantasy-novel style.

Fenris, who can’t wait.

RJ’s next book is gonna be called * Crossroads of Twilight*; the release date is either unknown and unknowable, or this November, depending whom you ask. Incidentally, Tor’s website is the last place you want to go for current news; the last I checked (and it was this past week), they were still referring to RJ’s “upcoming book, The Path of Daggers”

Yeah, I should have been more specific. Their website is horrible, but they have their publishing schedule on there, which is updated up through August.
