Any one own an Oritron DVD player?

Sometimes when I went to the video store they wouldn’t have the movie we wanted on tape, but they would have it on DVD.
I wanted to increase my options, so I went out and bought the most inexpensive DVD palyer there was, an ORITRON. Everytime I’m a cheap skate I get punished! I make a good living, I can afford a better unit. But I bought this thing.
First of all, it conflicts with the remote that goes to my Zenith 32inch t.v. . Then, it also conflicts with our vcr, the vcr has to be turned off while watching DVD or the picture gets crazy.

But what really makes me nuts is that this player doesn’t obey the remote! The little light on the unit lights up, but it doesn’t do what you’ve ordered it to do, like put on closed captioning or change the picture angle. It makes us nuts. Does anyone else have one of these, and are you having the same problems? Are there any cures, or should I just pack it back up and take it back?

Note: In simple play mode it does fine, the picture and sound are fantastic! And after rebate it only cost me $82.00!

Aren’t those controlled by the dvd itself & not the player? Some dvds say they are captioned but they are not.

Yuck! We bought an Oritron DVD player, with the goofy logic that it was ok to buy the cheap DVD player, and wait a little to figure out exactly which decent DVD player we wanted to spend a lot of money on (and also to wait for the market price to drop a bit). Now of course, we have a non-functioning DVD player, so we could have saved the $100 and sat around watching a blank TV screen.

When the @#$% was working, it worked just fine. We didn’t have any of the problems you mentioned. The remote control did everything it was supposed to do. Then one day, it just quit working AT ALL. We’re debating if it’s worth trying to get it fixed, or if we should just accept the punishment handed down from the Holy Cheapskate Avengers and buy a new (good) DVD player.

When we used the remote control, it was always with the menu options on the screen. Changing the picture angle wasn’t done on the unit, persay, it had to be on the DVD’s menu selection screen. Are you seeing the various menu selections highlighted but then nothing happens?

I’ve got a DVD Rom for my computer. It was working sort of semi-fine, only most of my DVDs seemed to freeze up at certain points, and crashed.

Now, it won’t work at all. None of my DVDs work anymore on it. It makes NO sense.

And it’s a good brand with great reviews, too, no cheapskateness this time, standard price! Samsung SD-612. So I gotta get it replaced, for sure. (Samsung website is a waste of space, too)

We blazed through two of the pieces of ass in about a year. Unresponsive remote, random shit happening… one day it turned on and just read and read, refused to open or play or anything. Just kept spinning up. Dad gave up and got a Pioneer.
