Any other Dopers going to the Bonnaroo music festival?

Is anyone else going to the Bonnaroo music festival? It’s June 11-13 in Tennessee. 90,000 people are expected and there are scores of bands playing.

This will be my first time there and I am really looking forward to it. Has anyone gone in years past? How was it?

If there are other Dopers going, we should have a DoperRoo Fest there!

You know, my little sis was telling me about it the other night, when my telling her that Guster was playing a DC show with Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright sparked her memory. But looking over the band list, there’s just not enough there to interest me. The artists I’d actually actively want to see:

Del McCoury Band
Beth Orton
David Byrne
Willie Nelson
Bob Dylan

That’s about all I spy on the list that genuinely interest me. So I think I’ll save my money on the roadtrip and tickets.

But to make me salivate further, do any of the other bands on the list play similar music to mine listed? (especially, what are the other bluegrass performers I just didn’t notice by name?)

There are several other bluegrass bands (or bluegrass-inspired bands) there…the ones I know are:

The Del McCoury Band
Leftover Salmon
Acoustic Syndicate
Umphrey’s McGee
The Hackensaw Boys <---------- These guys are AWESOME! They come to the DC area to play every once in a while, you should check 'em out.

If anyone goes, you HAVE to check out Neko Case, and also Calexico. She is wonderful, and they are pretty damn cool as well.

While I’m not going, it would be a perfect time to meet up with some Dopers, what with Nashville being just up the road. But with traffic as hectic as it gets around the festival, once you’re there, you may not feel like moving your car again until it’s all done.

Come on, isn’t there anyone else going to Bonnaroo on this board? They’re selling 90,000 tickets, there’s gotta be someone else! :cool:

I went to the last two, but I can not make it this year.

As far as big-ass music festivals go, I was impressed with Bonnaroo. There seemed to be plenty of facilities.

I think I had a good time. Saturday is kinda of blur.
