Any other Dopers who have never been to Europe?

I’ve wanted to go REALLY BADLY ever since I was in my late teens. However, a hitch in the army followed by 6 yrs of post secondary education combined with my utter inability to handle money properly has postponed my travel plans. Soon though. Within the next coupla years. The problem is, when you live in Nunavut you want to take tropical vacations.

Soon, though.

Never been to Europe although I’ve been to Asia, AUS, and Canada. I’m going to be 30 this year. (zomg.)

I’m pretty sure you can find all but the strong dollar somewhere in Europe, and every inhabited continent has mass graves containing the graves of someone’s ancestors.

Aagh! I’m in the same boat, Sampiro – always, “for next time”… be it for when there’s the time to put in a proper number of days, for when there’s the money, for when there’s the money and no other priority expense, for when “we” (for whatever the current value of “we”) can coordinate to make it simultaneously, for when Y thing to take care of is resolved…

…I’m committed to having it happen within the next 4 years, I’m not getting any younger!

Well, the strong dollar makes it easier to enjoy those other things. I want a country where my dollar is going to be like a strong, sweaty bull-yak lugging thousand-pound packs up a Himalayan trail, not like a young lamb whose bones would splinter like toothpicks under the slightest amount of pressure.

Back in her hippie days, my Darling Marcie finagled a passage on a freighter; she and another girl hitch hiked around Europe. She still talks about that trip as being maybe the greatest time of her life. She says Austria and Switzerland are the most beautiful places in the world.
We plan to visit Europe after she retires, which will be in about two years.

We have bluebells here? Huh, fancy that…

You so live in London :stuck_out_tongue:

The Chezch Republic for you then! Good prices and great beer

You might want to suggest that to them as a motto: “Milan, the Cleveland of Italy!”

Besides North America I have been to Australia and South America. I really want to go to Europe, especially the UK, Ireland and Italy and Spain would be nice as well. Also Greece would be cool. And Belgium.
Two things stopping me now are money and, umm, domestic issues. Someday when those are worked out.

Before I even began to travel I was itching to see Europe. By the time I was at university, Art History had me rabid to visit the Museums. Then I moved in with a bunch of foreign students and my whole world view underwent a significant change and Europe dimmed.

After hitchhiking to the Yukon with my Chinese roommate one summer I was totally hooked on travel but my destination of choice had completely shifted. I spent the next 15 yrs traveling, working, traveling.

SE Asia half a dozen times, India, Nepal, Kashmir, S America. Somewhere in the beginning I decided that I’d save Europe and Australia for when I was old. I wanted to scale mountains and volcanoes, long treks, dodgy boats - while I was still young.

I spent 10 hrs in Amsterdam once on the way to Asia, went to an Egyptian Museum. It’s easier to just say I’ve never been to Europe.

I do hope it’s in my future though. Having met too many European’s to mention, on my journeys I’ve learned a lot more about it, which has changed my perspective considerably.

Maybe not so much on the good prices any more.

Never been, always wanted to. I want to see all the history and architecture, of course, but I also want the 21st century experience. I want to see the UK first (for the music scene), then France (for the food), then Amsterdam (for the experience). I don’t think I’ll ever get there, but if I do, that’s my itinerary.

Ok… still cheaper than western Europe though (for me that is).

Don’t get over-excited, it’ll be raining as usual…

I’ll bring an umbrella. I won’t mind and I’ll never complain.

We actually receive less rain fall per year than Holland and Belgium, the notion that we’re a particularly water logged country is unfounded (we don’t even have a monsoon season).

I’d rather not go anywhere in which I’ll have the possibility of being eaten by a crocodile or hippo.

I’ve not been to Europe, but it’s on my list of “Things I’d like to Experience Once I Have More Money”. I’d like to do Italy first, I think, then Ireland and maybe Spain. Of course, there’s also Turkey, which would be my ultimate first choice (Hallgirl2 spent a year in Istanbul), but yeah, Italy. Not sure about South America (crocs vs rebels…um, nothankyou).

Upon edit…I forgot to mention India. I dream of going to India–beautiful, colorful, flavorful dreams.

I’ve been to Israel and Jordan, and Southern Africa–South Africa, Botswana and Zambia. Never Europe. The first trip was “free” as a college student, the second was on my grandmother’s dime and the deal was that I would keep her out of trouble in exchange for the opportunity. I succeeded, mostly.

I’d like to go to Europe, someday, but may or may not ever actually make it there.

Ditto. I want the narrow streets of Europe, I want civilization, I want handsome Englishmen, and I want to be immersed in the history of a people that once ruled the world (and ruled my people!) Everybody can keep their alligators!

Ah, India. I was born there and have been back four times and would still want to visit it again.
