Any other holiday/birthday combos?

Every so often someone will mention being born on or near Christmas and that their birthday and Christmas would wind up melded together for purposes of gifts. Anyone born near any other holidays find that this happens? I was born in April so the closest holiday to me was Easter, which is variable, and no one ever tried to get away with combining my birthday presents and my Easter basket.

Although my brother did once give me a St. Patrick’s themed item for my birthday (and for that matter a birthday themed item for Christmas) but I chalk that up to his shitty gifting skills as a teenager.

We just had an office party for a secretary here. Her birthday was on the 1st.

I was born on All Saints Day.

My brother was born on Thanksgiving.

My sister was born on Easter.

My father was born on May Day.

My great grandmother was born on Christmas.

I was born on traditional Memorial Day.

I have a good friend who was born on Dec 25th. Then again, it was never a problem for her because she’s Jewish (her family didn’t do Xmas gifts and still got her the traditional number of gifts for Hannukah anyway).

Still, she always complains that people forget to call and wish her a happy birthday (including me).

Mrs. Urquhart and I were married on September 11, 2000. Instead of celebrating our first anniversary a year later, we spent the evening in the welcome company of friends. We still tend to do that on September 11, and observe our anniversary on another date.

Every few years my birthday falls on Labor Day. No one gives Labor Day presents so that’s not an issue, but I often get a welcome day off and/or a little special attention at someone’s barbecue.

This doesn’t count as a “holiday” but my birthday and my brother’s birthday are 10 days apart (he’s 2 years - 10 days older), and his birthday was Mother’s Day of that year, so we always had joint parties. Then my little cousin came along 2 days before my birthday. Then my brother married someone with a birthday near his and his father in law’s is a couple days later.

So we just have one big group party sometime after May 1 and call it a day. Although I tend to get crabby about spending all of my birthday money on him and my mom. harumph!

I was born in April as well, so my family usually gives me presents when we get together for Easter. My younger sister and brother (twins) were born in late November, but my sister refuses to combine their birthday celebration with Thanksgiving. I figure it’s because she already has to share her birthday with one turkey.

I’m December 28. Major melding happens. College roomate was born on February 29, 1984 so is only turning 6 this next year.

My mom was born on St. Patrick’s day and is named Patricia. Needless to say, she spent her entire childhood wearing green and being called Patty. She hates, hates, HATES green now heh.

Her brother was born on Valentine’s day, but I don’t think that has had any ill effect for him (aside from the fact his middle name is Valentino, but that’s not really a problem).

I was born the day before Martin Luther King day and every, what? 7 years? my birthday is a federal holiday heh.

I was born on Dec 29th.

“Merry Christmas, oh… um, that’s for your birthday too.” Heard from all my relatives.

As a kid I thought I’d get ripped off in the prezzie dept.

But my mom, God bless 'er, always made sure I had a swell party with lots of gifts.

I was born on New Year’s Eve. Luckily, no one in my family ever tried to combine.

My sister’s birthday is Groundhog Day. Always used to piss her off when we would forget about her amidst the family’s cross-quarter-day celebrations!

My boys’ birthdays are 2 days (and 4 years) apart. So they’ve always had a joint birthday party. With 2 cakes.

Before my youngest son’s 11th birthday he asked if they could have separate parties. Even though I always made their individual birthdays special for them, having 2 parties was really not much of an option for 2 boys so close in age, with so many common friends, so I said no, sorry, one party. His brother moved back East for about a year shortly after that, so for his 12th birthday he did have his very own party. Of course he said he missed his brother and wished they could have had a joint party.

This year my oldest will turn 21 the day after Easter and his brother will be 17 two days after that.

Combining their parties was as far as I’ve ever gone. I’ve never tried to roll it into Easter too, even though since they are March babies, it’s usually close by.

Every so often my birthday lands on Thanksgiving. I kind of like it. I prefer pumpkin pie to cake anway.

My husband’s birthday sometimes falls on Thanksgiving. He rather likes it because he can have the day off automatically. He also likes to have a coffee cake for breakfast and open his presents then anyway, so Thanksgiving dinner really doesn’t subtract from his birthday celebration much.

My birthday periodically falls on Memorial Day, which is no great shakes except that in those same years my wife’s birthday always falls on Thanksgiving.

My birthday also periodically falls on Memorial Day. Unfortunately, because it’s the 31st, that’s the only time it falls on the long weekend, which kind of kills the fun of any 3-day trips because we’d have to spend most of my birthday driving back. Yuck.

Mr. S’s birthday occasionally coincides with Columbus Day, big whoop. No mail.

As a kid we had monthly family gatherings for birthdays. Most times, my brother & I had our birthday in combination with Easter (in April). I have spent the past 20+ years trying to convince my wife that my birthday is on Easter regardless of when it actually comes & that the large rabbit at the mall is actually the Birthday Bunny.

It’s tough having a smart wife… :frowning:

I was born on Washington’s birthday, which is generally not a big deal unless you’re buying a mattress, and nobody gets Presidents’ Day off now anyhow, but when I was in college it just so happened that the college Founder’s Day was on my birthday (George Washington Scott founded Agnes Scott, so named partly because of his birthday!) so there’d be a little celebration for me.
