For those not familiar, David Faustino (Married With Children) and Corin Nemec (Parker Lewis Can’t Lose) produce/write/star in a series of web based mini-sitcoms called STAR-VING on Crackle. None are work safe but they can be seen on Crackle. The plot, such as it is:
Faustino and Nemec play very exaggerated versions of themselves (i.e. they’re ex MWC star Faustino and ex PLCL star Corin Nemec), but as two penniless substance abusing has-beens so desperate to get back into show biz they’ll do anything from (literally) Nazi scheiss porn to babysitting Gilbert Gottfried’s 35 year old abusive obese retarded son. It’s similar to perhaps Curb Your Enthusiasm as directed and written in a style with standards that make the American Pie films or Jackass look like Merchant-Ivory and with offense to every conceivable demographic: blacks, Jews, Catholics, gays, the retarded, Germans, etc., and with lots of poop and fellatio grossout jokes as well. Hardly fun for the whole family, but also better than some of the shows on TV, and some of the most offensive humor is offset by other factors (e.g. there are crude jokes about Christina Applegate’s breast cancer & double mastectomy… but they’re by Christina Applegate). And if you’ve ever had a particular wish to see copious David Faustino nudity including him running around naked with a swastika flag in his bum, this is your right turn onto Lucky Street.
Anyway, I don’t promote these as art, but I found the premise and the idea interesting. I won’t be surprised if this series, once it becomes better known (and it already has a cult following) will put Faustino and Nemec back on the map of sorts and pave way back into mainstream media, and was curious who else is trying it. Hence my wondering: are there any other name stars (to the extent Nemec and Faustino are names) who do webisodic series?
