Any Planetside players?

I play for the New Conglomerate, on Markov.

Here’s my character.

I don’t play but i have a question. Is it really that much better than say BF1942 which i play almost daily to be worth a monthly fee? From what i gather it is an online persisten FPS, is this correct?

I play on Emerald as Ryujin, but I haven’t played in a while. I got pretty burned out on it.

It’s better than BF42, because stuff matters. If you take a base, it doesn’t just reset when the server changes maps. The base stays taken until someone pries it away. Also, you gain skills and stuff, so there’s a little bit of an RPG feel to it too.

I used to play BF1942, or rather the Desert Combat mod, almost exclusively, but Planetside is the only FPS I play anymore. It takes some getting used to, because of it’s persistent nature the ebb and flow of combat is different, and the feel of the weapons and how much damage people can take is very different from BF.

I am VERY into this game right now. theendisnear, I would consider it superior to BF1942 for a lot of reasons: There are way more weapons, vehicles, and abilities in the game.

There is embarking/disembarking animations when you get in/out of vehicles, and in general the game is just on a much bigger scale. This isn’t a 12 vs 12 player capture the flag game. This is a 100 v 100 “all your base are belong to us” zerg rush on land and air. The battles are on an enormous scale, and can rage for literally hours. Day and night elapses in the game, rain and sandstorms ravage the battlefield, and continents change hands each day. You have soldiers with predator-like invisiblity, sneaking up on enemies and assasinating them with knife blows.

I have several characters in the game (in case one server is acting up, I can play another character on another server). Right now my most frequently used character is on Johari, and is Battle Rank 13. Ever since the addition of the Liberator bomber, there has been much more air combat. I have a Sparrow max certification and a Mosquito certification; Liberators are really fun to shoot down.

As far as the monthly fee, what I like about it is I pay it in advance. I paid for 3 months, which on top of the free initial month, and afterwards I will decide whether I still am interested. If they keep updating/bug fixing, I definitely will.

I fought in a couple of really fierce battles the other night, the kind that stick with you. In one we had hacked a base and the enemy kept spawning in droves in the basement, and we had the only stairway out of the basement under our control, but it was a hard fight. For about 10 minutes they kept coming, and they pushed us back a few landings but they were never able to break all the way free. The carnage was insane, and when we finally took the base I got almost 5000 XP due to the heavy fighting.
