Any Pocket Tanks players?

It’s a computer game. Based on the old artillery game but with different weapons types that add some strategic elements. There’s a free version available at the company website but you can also buy expansions.

I’ve been playing it for about a month now and I’d be interested in hearing what other people think of it.

I used to play it all the time with a friend over lunch at work. It was amazingly addictive and we even bought all of the weapons packs. We probably got more enjoyment out of it than we’d ever thought possible - I think we played it intermittenly for almost two years! Watch out, though, they only release a new weapons pack like every year and a half at most. Hope you enjoy what you’ve got now!

They’ve released two since I’ve been playing (a free 5-pack and a buyable 15-pack). Based on this one piece of data, I assumed they had a fairly regular schedule but apparently I just hit them on the right month. But it’s not really a problem - with the existing packs there are now 165 different weapons, which is as many as I can keep track of anyway.

One specific question: is there any strategy to using the mystery bombs, the mass driver, or the gold bullet? They seem to simply hit targets almost at random - is there a way to direct them towards the other tank?

I hadn’t been over to Blitwise for a while, that’s nice to hear that they’re releasing more packs these days. It looks like the Golden Bullet and mass driver are newer weapons that I’m not familiar with. As for the mystery bombs, unfortunately there really is no good strategic way to see where they’re gonna go. When my friend and I played, we would always randomly select weapons and that was one of the ones that we never wanted. The best combo we found was a mass digger that sends your enemy into a hole, fill it with bouncy dirt, and then send in a pillow fight. There’s nowhere else for the shots to go and it can get you several hundred points. However, that’s one of those one in a thousand strategies - it’s a lot harder than you think!

Ditto. I feel like such a total dork, but I loved blowing my opponent the heck up with that synthy music playing all the while. Something about that soundtrack gave me a kind of Pavlovian joy response. De-de-de-de-deet-de-de-deet! Woo-hoo!

It’s like the damned bazooka. Sure, it’s 150 points in theory. But I haven’t yet seen it used successfully in an actual game.

Looks like Scorched Earth.

There’s Scorched Earth 3D available too.
