One of my hobbies is pottery. I’ve been doing this off and on for the past 20 years, since an art elective in college.
I find this a great way to relieve stress. When I’m bored in business meetings, I think (and doodle) about pottery, and when I’m trimming pots is when I frequently figure out how to do something difficult with the latest program. (I’m a programmer by vocation.)
Anyway, I’m getting pretty good at this. Our friends and family have more hand-made pots, bowls, vases, etc., than they know what to do with.
Can anyone recommend a good outlet for hand-made pottery? I’d like to make some money from this, at least enough to cover the cost of materials. From my research on eBay, eBay doesn’t seem to be appropriate, unless I was looking in the wrong category.
Thanks.
I have dabbled but my sister makes sort of a side living at it. I think like many things you have to kind of just get lucky, and stumble upon a situation that would allow an outlet, a local gallery, craft store that sells that kind of stuff etc. my sister actually met someone who started commissioning her to make sets of bowls, cups, whatever for people who wanted a matching set of artsy dinnerware. That seemed to be where she made a little bit of money but it also came with deadlines and guidelines as to how her work had to be done.
My suggestion is to find a local gallery of art store that might have a place on the shelf for some neat stuff made by an artist in the area. it may require some shopping around of you stuff which isn’t always the most fun or comfortable, but if you meet the right person or place, it could turn out great.
