displaying my craft

Hi,
I’m looking for advice from someone who knows the ins and outs of posting one’s art or craft online. I used to have a site, many years ago, and am not sure it’s the way to go NOW. I make stick pins, and would like to display them for others who are interested, and might want to discuss same, i.e. their history, the craft, uses, etc.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
… john

General Questions is for questions with factual answers, which this does not. Ordinarily, I’d move a thread asking for advice to IMHO, but since this is about art, Cafe Society would also work. Moving.

You could try Reddit. Reddit has a sub for EVERYTHING! And if there isn’t one, you could make one.

Hi,
Thanks.

Is there a reason you wouldn’t just use Etsy?
Or do you feel like your stickpins might be too classy for that…

Thanks for asking about this! I’ll keep checking this thread to see if there are more recent entrants into the field. I have a ton of artwork filling my closet that I should sell as well… and my knowledge of online marketing is a couple of decades out of date.

If you’re selling then Etsy is great. Facebook marketplace is popular with us old folks. It is also good if you just want to show off. You can make yourself a stick pin page to show off your pins and sell if you want-- or just show off. There’s Amazon Homemade for selling. I haven’t heard from fellow sellers much about it but, you know, Amazon. Even bigger selling base than Etsy.

This. Searching Reddit for subreddits with “Craft” in the name, I saw two for sharing craft suggestions/recipes and showing off projects. /r/craftit has nearly 20,000 members.

Thanks biggirl,
I am interested in showing them off, but not selling. I was really hoping to get some sort of discussion going, although I doubt that there are many people interested in this.
Hi digs,
I have to admit that I’m really clueless about these site, Reddit, Etsy, etc. That’s why I’m here, to find out who does what. Classy? Well, yes, of course.
Hi gnoitall,
Yes. I’ll have a look at Reddit. Love your handle, very clever.

I just thought of another place: Craftsters. You will find others who are interested in any crafts you might be interested in with forums to post pictures of your stuff and have a (slow moving) discussion. I think stick pins would fit nicely in their Jewelry and Trinkets forum.

note that Craftsters’ hosting site dumped them or died and now they are here:

Lettuce Craft

Thank you. I was wondering why it seemed so slow moving and empty!

Thanks Biggirl/Ulfreida,
I’ll check them out.
