Any Pro Wrestling Fans in the Audience? (Multiple promotions) (Part 2)

wow we always joked that even tho he was married we knew Vince got more ass than a port o pot at the swap meet

There is talk that USA Network is not pleased that the two world championships are now both being held by Roman Reigns, who rarely appears on RAW. They may be split up again. USA Network’s idea of having an interim champion was a no-go.

Gene LeBell has died at the age of 89.

The man was a legend of combat sports, having been influential in the wrestling world and as a legit fighter for decades, competing in the first modern MMA match, having trained everyone from Bryan Danielson to Ronda Rousey to Chuck Norris, and was a Hollywood stunt coordinator to boot, once famously choking out Steven Seagal on set after Seagal claimed he was immune to submission holds.

Anybody watch NXT these days? What’s up with the Rounds Match that took place between Wes Lee and Trick Williams? Kind of a combination of a wrestling match and a boxing match?

They’re emulating the British rules occasionally done in NXT UK matches. Since those are similar to boxing matches, they threw in the boxing gloves (I guess).

Worked boxing matches just bring up confused childhood memories of Rowdy Roddy Piper vs. Mr. T at Wrestlemania II for me.

AEW Dark Taz/Excalibur moment of the day

Sorry for the lateness. I had a busy day yesterday and no access to a solar-powered jet.

Just doing the main course today.

Dark Order’s Evil Uno & 10 vs. The Wingmen’s “Pretty” Peter Avalon & JD Drake

Ex: Taz, I’m a little confused. Tony Schiavone tried to explain it earlier tonight. Apparently, The Workhorsemen, JD Drake and Anthony Henry, are a subsidiary of Wingmen Industries LLC.
Taz: It’s all tied together.
Ex: Yeah, and “Pretty” Peter Avalon is the primary shareholder and CEO of Wingmen Industries, but it’s unclear what products they make.
Taz: Yeah well, it’s because they’re not a publicly-traded company. It’s private.
Ex: Well, even private companies, you kinda know what products they make.
Taz: Well, they’re what you call a “UP.” UP is Ultra Private.
Ex: Oh!
Taz: They’re so private, they don’t even sell stuff. It’s just sell things to people that are their close friends. That’s it.
Ex: They sound like drug dealers, Taz.

Later, during The Workhorsemen’s Anthony Henry vs. Orange Cassidy:

Ex: As we mentioned, the Workhorsemen, a subsidiary of Wingmen Industries LLC, a “UP,” Ultra Private!
Taz: Yeah, Ultra Private, that’s a big thing!
Ex: It’s a business term that most everybody knows.
Taz: Yeah, most don’t know, but I’m in the loop and I have a lot of hedge fund friends.
Ex: Oh, you might say you’re a “business insider.”
Taz: Yeah, inside business form type guy.
Ex: Not inside baseball, though. (alluding to an earlier comment about the Mets blowing a game)

Boxing and wrestling do not work together in any shape or form. Every attempt has been a disaster. Based on that I expect to them to repeat this atrocity with increasing frequency.

Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho had a rematch from 2020’s Revolution pay-per-view last night on Dynamite, this time with Moxley defending the (interim) AEW World Championship.

It was a brutal contest in which both men got busted wide open. At one point, Moxley was in the Walls of Jericho throughout the length of an entire commercial break; without embellishment, at least four minutes.

Jericho got busted open later in the contest when he got a face full of exposed turnbuckle. Moxley kicked out of the Judas Effect and also the Codebreaker. Ultimately, he pulled out the victory despite Jericho even hitting him with a Sammy Guevara-provided tire iron or something.

Afterwards, the Jericho Appreciation Society came down to beat up on Moxley. The Blackpool Combat Club came to even the score, along with Ortiz and Kingston, but they were outnumbered and losing the fight–

Until CM PUNK returned to clean house like he was Stone Cold during the Attitude Era. Ultimately, the two world champions came face to face with each other, with Moxley flipping Punk the bird and walking off.

I watched the match, so I knew about all this. Still, it may have been better to spoiler it, just in case. Maybe give people until the weekend? I don’t know. I know I’ve probably spoiled things happening in PPVs, so this isn’t me pretending to be a saint.

It was a mini-baseball bat that Guevara tossed into the ring.

Moxley matches and blood are boring. Moxley tore out Jericho’s earring in the first minute and there was blood the entire match. It might have meant something, might have been special, if it wasn’t simply just another Moxley match. IMHO, Khan needs to stop this yesterday, keep blood off the TV shows and use it on PPV only. He needs to be more advertiser-friendly rather than over-appealing to a niche crowd.

It was actually the other way around.

My bad. Sorry.

Agreed. A little blood on TV maybe, it makes a good cut away scene for a TV show, and when showing clips from the PPVs too. But just for promo purposes.

Good match with Jade Cargill taking on veteran Madison Rayne. AEW is doing a great job giving her competition. Those other women champions on the show better watch out. I think she will run through the entire world of women’s wrestling. Give credit for Rayne, Queen of the Knockouts, for still working it in the ring (she has the position of ‘coach’ for AEW’s women’s division).

Also liked seeing Ricky Starks starting his singles push. He is a fantastic wrestler in both athletic and performance ability. He’s on the small side for modern wrestling, not a problem in AEW currently. They’ve gotta start working on competition between Starks and Sammy Guevara. These guys aren’t just crash dummies like some other nimble lightweights in the game.

You’re probably, almost certainly, right. I’m not going to rewatch to confirm though. Once was too much.

Agreed. I first came across him on NWA Powerrr, and thought he was awesome. Somehow, he failed his WWE tryout. Whatever he’s done after that has worked. He’s got more than enough ring skill, and he has personality just oozing from his pores, and AEW needs that. And while I like a singles push for him, and despite AEW’s crowded tag team scene, both he and Hobbs could have benefitted from a multi-month title run if they were allowed to showcase during the run (as opposed to the often absent Swerve in our Glory).

Self-reported to get its current censor tags after the fact.

It’s all good. As I said, I’ve probably been guilty before, especially during PPV. But I also sometimes can’t get to a show for 2 or 3 days (especially Rampage, which often I end up watching Sunday morning), and while I really can’t avoid high-level spoilers, I do try to avoid detailed spoilers.

I don’t think it’s been mentioned yet, but I’m really liking the Bayley/Dakota Kai/Io Skyy angle. Having them fight with the champion and two other faces is something that I can see happening on the men’s side and the women’s division is better for it. Maybe it’s because the ladies are better actresses than the usual ones WWE pushes (Charlotte and Sasha in particular), but this feels much more natural of a storyline than what they usually give the women.

Turns out the $5 mill was actually payola directed to Donald Trump’s sham charity around the time he was making appearances on WWE TV in the late 2000s.

Hunter’s spree of rehiring the people Vince axed while he was on the shelf continues. Hit Row made their return on Smackdown tonight, minus Shane Strickland, who is of course currently one half of the AEW tag team champions along with Keith Lee. They got a pretty raw deal with their original callup, being brought up as a foursome, then losing B-Fab the next week, then being released about a month later without ever even getting a chance to do anything. Hopefully this run goes better for them.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way about both of their promo abilities. Just last night, one could see how much more at ease Bayzler was on the mic as compared to Morgan. Despite that, Flair, Banks, Morgan, and others are still much better than a significant chunk of the AEW roster, both men and women.

Rumor is Top Dolla is not well-liked backstage. The only person he goes out of his way to not piss off is HHH. As he’s the main talker, the others were all collateral damage (Strickland theoretically could have held his own as a single, but McMahon/Khan/Dunn were just doing what they do - or did).
