Tonight on Dynamite, SANADA put out an open challenge for the IWGP world title at Forbidden Door, and Jungle Boy accepted. Hiroshi Tanahashi also challenged MJF to a match for the AEW world title, so that’s quite a few main-event-tier matches they’ve got lined up now for next weekend.
That’s part of what I find appealing about AEW. There’s always a cameo of somebody from another fed with whom I’m not that familiar. I do miss the Dark/Elevation undercarders though. Maybe they’ll get their spots in Collision.
It’s both good and bad. They really should announce these type of matches earlier and spend time introducing the overall audience to the wrestler. WWE spends too much time with pointless build-up (especially during the PPV) while AEW needs to spend more time with the build up. Somewhere in there is a happy medium.
The Observer is reporting that Carlito has signed with WWE.
“Hey, we have Puerto Rican viewers. Better step up!”
“Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” by Sir Elton John is the official theme of AEW Saturday Night Collision.
Jeez, Tony Khan’s got more money than God.
Jey USO finally made his choice last night on SmackDown! And now we’ve got Usos vs. Roman and Solo for MITB.
He’s personally got about $1.5 billion to his name, and his dad’s got another $12 billion lying around. He’s probably richer than Vince McMahon.
That being said, they apparently decided against licensing “The Final Countdown” for Danielson because Europe was asking for an absurd amount of money just to use 30 seconds of the song.
Logan Paul is now in the MITB match.
I’m gonna call it now - he wins the briefcase, then successfully cashes in on Rollins later that night.
I would actually rather see Logan Paul vs Bad Bunny, with Snoop Dogg as special referee. Just fire all the genuine wrestlers already.
That assumes Rollins doesn’t lose it to Bron Breaker tonight. I wouldn’t count on that happening though. They don’t know what to do with him, he’s too green to for the big time, too good for the minor leagues.
Just have them fight for the David Arquette title.
They’re already promoting Seth vs. Finn for the title at MITB, so I think tonight’s match is a foregone conclusion.
So here’s the card for Forbidden Door;
- IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: SANADA (c) vs. Jungle Boy
- AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
- IWGP United States Championship: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Will Ospreay
- AEW International Championship: Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Katsuyori Shibata vs. Danny Garcia
- AEW Women’s Championship: Toni Storm (c) vs. Willow Nightingale
- Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada
- CM Punk vs. Satoshi Kojima
- Adam Cole vs. ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor
- Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, Konosuke Takeshita, & Shota Umino vs. Adam Page, the Young Bucks, Eddie Kingston, & Tomohiro Ishii
- Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, & Minoru Suzuki vs. Sting, Darby Allin, & TBA
- Athena vs. Billie Starkz
It’s taken them a LONG time to fill out the undercard on this show, and it doesn’t really have as much of a big cross-promotional feel as last year’s card does, but I’m excited enough for Bryan/Okada, MJF/Tanahashi, and Omega/Ospreay that I’ll buy this one.
is it me or do most of the Japanese guys not like wrestling the AEW guys … im told its voluntary usually
I think that was a just an evaluation match/bone thrown to bron for keeping nxt relevant
Reportedly, Vince just can’t keep his senile old fingers out of the pie and was booking last-minute changes to Smackdown last night, which is why the promoted Bayley/Mia Yim match never happened.
I swear he’s going to have to die before he gives up trying to micromanage everything, and even then he’ll probably demand that Hunter, Bruce Prichard, and Nick Khan contact him via Ouija board half an hour before they go live.
Vince remembers the things he gets right, like Finn Balor’s attack on Seth Rollins, but he really can’t do entire shows and at this stage makes more dumb moves than smart ones. Also I’m going to be the “well, actually” guy and say it was Bayley/Shotzi for the MitB slot that was postponed. As Bayley posted on Twitter, “Card Subject to Change”.
Also, while she is still my favorite (followed by Rhea), Asuka is doing a crap job as a heel. After such a good beatdown by Balor on Rollins, the Flair beatdown just looked pathetic, and was not given any time (very usual for women’s segments). Normally, I’d blame Flair for not wanting to be on the receiving end, but given how Asuka’s handled her heel turn, I’ll call it 50/50. Also, why mock Lacy Evans instead of Charlotte in that situation. Made no sense. One thing I did like was the dance, then kick. Very “Clockwork Orange”. But it needed a LOT more to sell it.
Wow. The boos for CM Punk right now are DEAFENING. Doesn’t look like he’s gonna be getting any babyface pops outside of Chicago any time soon.
I was reading a list of Hollywood slang, and came across this:
Nakamura: A running joke or callback that seemed funny when you wrote it but now that you’ve had a table read, it doesn’t get any laughs.
I wonder if that’s an in-joke at WWE? A term for somebody who looked magnificent and flashy on paper, but got no reaction from the audience.
