I think their intention was to say that since FTR and Punk are good friends, FTR is responsible for the Perry/Punk fracas. ← as an angle ahead of their big showdown
However, it came off as AEW being petty and jealous over Punk’s departure for WWE and getting to appear in WM 40 despite being damaged goods. It’s almost as cringey as WCW’s bashing of Mick Foley when he jumped to WWE and then vaulted to superstar status.
That’s about what I wanted to say. I didn’t watch the video, because my opinion of CM Punk is already rock bottom and there’s nothing he could do that would either raise or lower it, but this does feel like an incredibly petty move coming from TK. It smacks of when Vince Russo would have Tony Schiavone give away spoilers for taped Raw episodes during live episodes of Nitro.
TK needs to keep in mind that he’s no longer competing against an 80-year-old sociopath/pervert with a ten-second attention span and a fourth-grade sense of humor, but a corporate megacompany helmed by one of the savviest bookers of the last 40 years and with close ties to prominent Republicans.
Jon Moxley has won the IWGP world heavyweight championship, making him the first wrestler to ever achieve the triple crown of WWE/AEW/New Japan’s top titles.
While Vince had some absolutely awful ideas (and not just for Moxley - “suffering succotash” anybody?), Moxley needs someone to tell him no, and to tell him no frequently. But I do agree with you, his WWE title run was peak singles Moxley/Ambrose.
Moxley/Ambrose was always my favorite member of the Shield, and I honestly thought he should have gotten the big singles megapush that Vince insisted on trying to force on Roman Reigns for years and years. Alas, he took Mox’s “unstable psycho who’s just been let off the chain” character from his post-Shield run and sanitized into “Hey you guys, IIIIIIII’M WAAAAAAACKY!” and made him spend years talking to houseplants and being a germophobic Bane ripoff before he finally got cut loose.
In other news, AEW has announced their PPV schedule for the rest of the year;
Wrestledream is in my neck of the woods again, so I plan on being there, especially since that show has a good chance of being Bryan Danielson’s retirement match.
Ambrose was the only member of Shield who could really wrestle. He was over with the audience immediately, not just drawing attention, he was interacting with them. Rollins is still a one-man show, he’d look just as good wrestling a mannequin or a broom. The less said about Reigns the better. Vince was a brilliant businessman but he couldn’t recognize a good wrestler if one hit him in the face, as several did.
Forbidden Door is even closer to me than World’s End was and is on my birthday, but I ditched all cable and can’t watch AEW (can get WWE on Hulu), and the booking has been abysmal. I’m not sure I will go.
I always kind of figured the entire thought process involving Reigns was: ‘hey, The Rock became a superstar; I do not understand why; who do I think misses it the closest, for to cargo-cult that?
As predicted by several wrestling news outlets, Rhea Ripley vacated the Women’s World Championship due to injury. Liv Morgan and Nia Jax immediately expressed interest in fighting for it.
The RAW Tag Team Championships have been renamed and replaced with new World Tag Team Championship belts.
DIY became #1 contenders to the World Tag Team Championship.
And Chad Gable finally turned heel, attacking Sami Zayn after losing the main-event Intercontinental Title match to him. Sigh. I guess I saw that coming.
Sheamus is an unofficial mascot of a wrestling MB I post on and we have a Chuck Norris facts-type Sheamus thread that’s been going for almost 10 years now.
Happy to see Seamus back. I was about to stop paying attention again, probably will stop anyway, but at least he’s entertaining.
Pretty sure Rhea Ripley has been injured for a long time. Way back at some event she took a bad fall through the corner ropes and seemed to have an arm or shoulder issue ever since.
Of course they couldn’t think of anything better to do with Gable except continue humiliating him. Vince wasn’t the only asshole booker in that company. This is why I am fed up with it.
