Any reason for water pressure to change when it's raining?

Here’s a headscratcher. For as long as I can remember, when I wake up and get into the shower, I could always tell if it was raining (or at least really wet) outside my house because I would have to turn on more hot water than usual to get the water temperature comfortable. I’ve never understood why. I live in a warm climate and on a slab, if it makes any difference.

Anyway, last night it was raining really hard and I lost all water pressure to my house. About 30 minutes later, it was back to normal. The pressure has been off and on since then. I called the utility company but they said they haven’t had any other reports of an outage or problem, that the problem was probably on my side of the meter.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Well, some homes have an inline pressure reducer that converts from mains pressure to something more suited for domestic use. It’s conceivable that your house can have one of these and that it could be malfunctioning. Dunno what could cause a causal relationship between the failure and rain, although rain is usually associated with low barometric pressure.

I would start by getting a pressure gage to see if and how much it is varying.
