My theory is that Samy the Israeli gangster set up the place for his wife and to use it to launder money, but his wife is unaware of the restaurant’s real purpose. She applied to Kitchen Nightmares, and then Samy did everything possible to make sure the show left in a hurry. Turns out his wife helped him in that endeavor by being a nutjob anyway.

No, the purpose of the show is to get people to tune in and watch outrageous train wrecks then a sudden turn around for the happy “ending”. But even the places that are supposedly saved tend to shut down within a year or two. If you have to go on reality TV for your business, it’s already doomed.
This is the US version, the UK version is more of a documentary where they perhaps are trying to save things. I don’t know the track record there, but I wouldn’t be surprised if most of those closed as well.
