Hi there fellow VFP users.
I’m wondering if I could get some advice on how to link some third party ActiveX “ocx” files into some software that I have to write in a new job I’ve recently started.
My new gig is in a firm which specialises in Futures trading and currency exchange trades etc. We’re using various third party tools such as the Bloomberg inbound data feeds, as well as the Interactive Brokerage outbound trading API routines.
Currently, a whole bunch of software has been written in Visual Basic which uses various “.ocx” ActiveX objects, and my searches on the web have found old messageboard posts which indicate that various people have successfully loaded these ActiveX objects into Visual Foxpro but sadly, these people are no longer posting.
I’m a very long term VFP programmer myself, and in particular, it’s Visual Foxpro’s extensive database handling capacities which are going to prove to be very useful in my new position. However, I’ve never really had a need to make use of thrid party ActveX objects before, so I’m a bit of novice on that particular score. I’m quite capable of running with the existing VB systems, but to be honest, they weren’t written all that well - a lot of system parameters are hard coded into those systems and it’s the nature of futures trading that such parameters are constantly changing - along with trading strategies etc.
Any and all advice would be much appreciated.
Thanking you all in advance, Ive.
