Any way to save videos from news sites?

Tonight on CBS news, there was a story on children of the Holocaust that I’d like to show to my classes, but not for a couple of weeks, when we’re on the right unit. My previous experience has been that the videos are only on news sites for a day or two at most. Is there any way for me to access them much later? I’ve tried searching archives on sites like CBS and CNN, but I can’t find any way to access archived videos–if they ARE archived. I can’t just move one to my desktop. (I tried.)

I don’t have a DVR or TiVo or even an old VCR. Any ideas?

I assume you mean this video?

Go to http://www.keepvid.com
In the blue box at the top of the page, copy and paste the URL of the youtube page and then click the download button on the right side of the blue box.

You will get a security warning from your browser warning you that an applet will be loaded. Click “allow.” Don’t worry, it’s legit.

You will then be given a list of different video formats to use. Choose the one you prefer. It will take a few minutes. When it is done, it will show you a “download” button. Click on it and download!

The first time the video plays, it might show a commercial before the video, so you might end up recording the commercial. Do it a second time and you should be OK.

I just tried it and successfully downloaded the story.

And, by the way, get a Tivo, you won’t regret it.

Software to do this.

If you use firefox, there are plugins that do this. My personal choice is download helper. Been using it for years and it’s never failed me.
