Anybody else creeped out by the Baby Grace artist rendition?

I think some pageant-style retouching would actually HELP those Baby Grace pictures.

It’s hard to figure out just what’s so disturbing about the picture. The teeth remind me of Trilogy of Terror, but there’s more to it than that. The whole mouth area is creepy, but cover that up and it’s still disturbing. Cover up everything but the eyes, and it’s not so bad. But still, I can’t figure out what it is. The proportions are all correct, the skin tone is not that bad, but there’s just something really off going on with it.

Poor girl. :frowning:

The facial proportions are off for a toddler. The mouth is too far down from the nose, the nose is too long, and the jaw is too developed. She doesn’t look like a two or three year old. She looks like a seventeen year old

I think what makes it so unusual is some age-related descrepancies, like Phouka suggested.

The picture does resemble the missing child quite a bit, however, and that’s a different kind of creepy.

Poor kid.

Not in my case. I honestly knew nothing about the case until after I read the OP and saw the linked picture. It’s creepy because some of the features look like those of a dead body.

I also learned of the case (from this thread) only after seeing the picture and found the picture very unpleasant. The main thing about the picture that bothers me is that it looks like the jaw is disconnected from the head.

The dark patches at the corners of her mouth make it look like she has hollow cheeks.

All things considered, it was pretty close to what the girl actually looked like.

It did creep me out too, but I figured that the artist was trying to accentuate her facial features to make her identifiable, and in doing lost the lifelike quality.

The girl’s grandmother in Ohio recognized her from the sketch, so it obviously served it’s purpose.

Really? I put them side by side, check it again…

If only they used the REAL photo of her to help find her, I believe they would have had better success (before knowing the outcome of course).

The image suggests a skull.

The artist started with the image of partially decayed remains, & sketched over them. However, he didn’t do a good job, as the outline of the skull is visible at brow level.

Rather subliminal, IMHO.

It exists in the Uncanny Valley.

Yeah. If you watch those “Autopsy” shows on HBO, they often do artists’ impressions based on forensic pathologists’ interpretations from a skull and/or bone fragments. They totally look like that.

What a horrible crime. That poor little girl. :frowning:

I wonder how her mother and stepfather would look if they got the same treatment they gave that poor little girl?

I’m sorry, but what I find creepy is that people are making jokes about a picture of a little girl that was tortured to death.

No. I’m making fun of a picture that’s supposed to look like her. IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE HER AND IS HIDEOUS AND DISGRACEFUL.

The artist’s picture looks like those Neandertal dummies they have at history museums.

It does suggest a badly decomposed skull – enough so that the eyes are gone (you can really see the sockets in the higher res versions) and the lower jaw has separated. That may explain the excessive “toothiness”, as well as the extremely low position of the mouth.

And the lack of cheek fat. One thing about kids, they all have those round cheeks and soft jaws.

Her eyes look really sunken, too, like the skin has drawn up from the mouth. Ick.

IMO, those two pics look nothing alike except for coloring. I’m wondering how the grandmother ID’ed her with that rendering. Poor mite.

Maybe the population of girls who look remotely like that and are missing is small enough.
