Anybody else feel like Disneyworld is somewhat out of touch?

Cholo and others, please stop referring to Disney World as a whole when you’re clearly speaking solely in reference to the Magic Kingdom. Disney World is composed of four, fully realized theme parks, plus two water parks and copious other places of interest. It’s a disservice to base the entire 'World on a portion that represents less than a 1/4 of the entire experience. That’s just asinine.

I can’t believe some of the opinions expressed here, it sounds as if people require rides based around franchises. I love the Magic Kingdom’s timeless, largly not franchise based appearance; there’s nothing like it.

Also, I read complaints about Disney World’s lack of thrill rides (which I don’t agree with, but I’ll continue with that thought shortly). If you’re attending parks such as Magic Kingdom solely for the thrill rides, you’re going for the wrong reasons. It’s all about the experience/environment. Anyways, back to the “lack of thrill rides” point. I would hardly consider rides such as Tower of Terror, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, Test Track, Mission Space, etc as tame.

Nitpick: Whoever said Pirates of the Caribbean was “dirty” is right…because that is how it was intended. It’s about friggen pirates for God’s sake! I can assure you any perceived dirtiness was certainly intended. For example, Disney purchases tons (weight) of dust every year to spread around the Haunted Mansion for authenticity purposes.

Somehow ‘Dumbo’ based on a 62 year old film that was last released theatrically about 30 years ago is still one of the most popular rides.
I just wish that Indian Jones ride would come to the MK at WDW.

The Jungle boat cruise is probably in need to be scrapped in favor of something new. They don’t even shoot the hippos any more.

I went to Disneyworld about two weeks ago. It was neat, my aunt’s a park employee so we could go to every single park the same day…for free

I think Disney has done a good job of combining their old classics and their new classics in the Magic Kingdom. I went with my little brother, age 12 (I’m 17) and he recognized a lot of it, except the treehouse and Tom Sawyer’s island. His favorite ride turned out to be the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which isn’t at Disneyland. I’ve been wondering, and not to hijack the thread, but is that ride based on anything or is it just like the Jungle Cruise and all, not tied in with one specific movie/show/etc.?

If Disney goes all out and renovates all its rides for the newer generations, there will be a massive outcry…I remember reading about people being angry about the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea being replaced, and so forth. But kids didn’t understand the connection there, and Disney was “behind the times,” so why not replace it? (Although I liked the ride, personally. I got to go on it at Disneyland when I was younger.)

They’re gonna get burned either way, it seems.

What I like about Magic Kingdom is that doesn’t have to be thrilling for grownups. It’s for kids. I didn’t go to the Magic Kingdom expecting to find thrills like I found at the Islands of Adventure earlier in the week; I went expecting that I’d go on some fun, but more tame rides, and my brother would get to experience Disney.

Now, MGM Studios and Epcot, which we went to earlier in the day, THOSE had some cool rides!

You nailed it Caesar’s Ghost, oh and I’m 18. And I have also been to Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Magic Mountain and Disney World is still my favorite, by far. Though IOA is a close second.

It’s not based on anything, though there are plans to make it less scary and add Stitch.

mobo85, now that’s one thing I’m pissed about. I love Alien Encounter and adding stitch will remove the terror from the show :frowning:

Well, when people hear “Disney” they expect fun for the whole family, not scary aliens. Nobody realizes they’ve done some things. The famous debut of their famous first character features him doing things to animals that I think may be illegal in some states.

…Anyone here ever read Mouse Tales by Koenig? It’s a “behind the scenes” look at the Disney parks. It includes such juicy details as the Hippie Riot in Disneyland back in '70, in-park deaths (including one murder), how much Chlorine they had to dump in the “20,000 Leagues” tank, etc.

BTW, Cholo, have they remodeled the “Fantasyland” section of the Orlando Magic Kingdom, yet? When I last went to Disneyworld, back in '92, they still had a pretty…well, “cheesy” circus decor set up in that section of the park, apparently the original stuff from when the park opened in 1971. Shoddy construction, Plywood facades, obvious styrofoam in “It’s a Small World,” things like that. In contrast, Disneyland had remade it’s Fantasyland into a very well-built “European village” style, back in the mid-80s.

And…you didn’t miss out on going to Typhoon Lagoon, did you? God…Disney-themed or not, that place was the best

Hippos? I remember the olde days when they used to shoot at black natives chanting UNGAWA!! UNGAWA!! Ok…maybe not.
Somehow, I think Pleasure Island with it’s 50 foot Jessica Rabbit overlooking an assorted strip of Disneyized bars and clubs wasn’t part of Walt’s original vision.

Hmmm… Do they have an Atlantica section?
