I have this vague memory of one of the films strips they used to show in 4th gradeish health class. Among all the drugs will kill you and sex will kill you there were a few mixed in with other things that will kill you.
The one that stuck in the back of my mind was one about a guy who took a nice steamy shower in the morning. Then at the end he turned it to ice cold to shock himself totally awake. I don’t remember if he had a heart attack, or the narrator just droned about how it could give him a heart attack or what, but as a kid it scared me a bit. Every time someone would flush a toilet and the shower would get cold I would fear I was going to have a heart attack and die. Even today(litter ally today which reminded me) when the shower water suddenly turns cold I get a flashback to the old film.
When did you go to school? I went in the 70s and they had only just started so-called ‘Sex-Ed’ in Health class, but that didn’t start until 7[sup]th[/sup] grade! Nobody mentioned anything about drugs (let alone sex) in elementary school (K-5).
No but my pressure is pretty low. I’m guessing that when my toilet gets flushed, the water pressure going into my water heater drops and the overall shower temperature goes down.
Exactly. To be more specific the pressure into the hot water thank drops, so the pressure of the hot water out of the tank drops. And am I am surprised that anyone is surprised by that, I thought it was a universal knowledge kind of thing unless you live in a dense occupancy building.
In a two bathroom house, flushing the toilet in one bathroom when someone is showering in the second bathroom will often result in the traditional SCREAM.
These days, new houses have special valves n stuff…and another family bonding moment is lost to the ages.

I only remember a health class film about a kid doing coke* just one time *and having a heart attack and dying.
But as for less intended to scare you films, we did watch one in anatomy about an old guy who first sits in a sauna, then jumps into a cold lake. He had a massive stroke. They showed what it’d be like inside your skull when your brain hemorrhages. That was icky.
Studied in the 60s and 70s primary so it was 50s American productions. There were lessons on things like personal hygene, narrated by a matronly fairy. On how to say no, related by members of a high school a peer group, on such things as the first beer or the first date. There was a session on how to think (funny because it had more flashbacks than a Kung Fu episode.) And then specialized topics dealing with good manners, stage fright, first aid, CPR.
I remember this one-but I think it was a CPR film. I think somebody else got electrocuted in it.
Could it be The Pulse of Life from 1962? Unfortunately, I can’t find a description or a video but the name sounds very familiar. (I would have seen in in the late 1970s).
The old Comedy Channel/Syfy channel series Mystery Science Theatre 3000 used to show these shorts a lot, and most of them are so outdated as to be hilarious.
In grammer school we were shown an anti-pot-smoking film starring no less than Sonny Bono! He must have been caught with something and making the film was part of a plea agreement. It was pretty funny. You could tell he had a gun to his head during the making of it. and it made us all want to “experiment.”
Holy shit! If I were a child in the 50’s I would have been in a constant state of fear and permanent insomnia. BTW, did they really think duck and over would really protect you against an atomic bomb?
