Anybody ever try Raising Cane's (chicken fingers)?

The actual soup at the location in Buellton, twenty years ago, was much better than it had any right to be. I remember it being delicious, and memorable for more reasons than the ubiquitous billboards up and down 101.

Cane’s is all right for what it is, albeit I think the tenders have gotten smaller when I last tried them three weeks ago. I’m trying to eat less fast food things like that as I get older and fatter. I’d heard Zaxby’s are better, but have never tried them.

Buellton IS the better location, but it’s the difference between 50 miles and 200 miles.

We planned a road trip from L.A. to Solvang decades ago and packed some sandwiches for a picnic lunch. Once we were in range of the pea soup fumes (and it was waaaaay foggy and cold on the coast), we opted for Andersen’s instead. And forgot about the sandwiches in the trunk for months.

I checked locations for Raising Cane’s in SoCal, and they’re all east of the 710. Too far for o.k. chicken fingers.

I had Raising Cane’s for, like, the third time ever this week. My previous experiences didn’t exactly bowl me over, but I was insanely bored with my usual dinner choices so I decided to mix things up a little bit. It was fine. I continue to find the dipping sauce, which is apparently a big selling point for the chain, quite unremarkable. (It’s apparently a 2-to-1 mixture of mayo and ketchup with a few spices tossed in.) On the other hand, I found the huge picture of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman on the wall of the booth that I sat in to be an amusingly random choice of decoration.

That would be a bit of a hike. I wouldn’t do it for just the soup. Sanford Rinconada Pinot Noir and Ojai Bien Nacido Syrah, OTOH… We were in the area for the above and other wineries, and said, "We’ve grown up seeing the billboards everywhere, why not try it? Glad we did. I thought I hated peas until I tried that soup. Turns out I just hate supermarket frozen peas.

I don’t remember seeing a picture of Lynda Carter, and I definitely would have, but the pictures of the founder’s yellow Labs are always a neat treat.

The fingers are better than, say, Whataburger’s attempts to do chicken fingers. Which isn’t saying much.

Easily. Raising Cane’s tenders today are maybe 2/3 the size of the ones ~15 years ago. Maybe even more recent than that.

There’s one in San Diego, where we visit friends when attending SDCC every year. They introduced us to it a couple years ago. I love their chicken fingers! It’s probably a good thing there isn’t one anywhere near I’m from (SF Bay Area) because I’d have a hard time staying away, at least for a while.

They’re in Hawaii, and we’ve tried the one near the university here in Honolulu. Quite good.

Is she a cook at all? I’ve had really good luck trying copycat recipes from the web.

One opened up near here last fall. To publicize the opening, they gave out a ton of coupons for a free meal, and I’m a sucker for free food, so I gave it a try.

It was pretty good as free food goes. But there’s no way it was worth the $8 that was the regular price. And my neighborhood has such a high concentration of fast and short-order food that I can always get something better for less.
