We bought one last night, and now that I’m putting it together, I can’t quite figure out how it works. Anybody ever use one of these? Should I take it back before I even try?
Thanks!

Is that the one that “sweeps” the litter on a timer?
If you get it working, I’d like to know.
I had one a few years ago. I don’t remember enough to explain to you blind exactly how it works, but it does work- when you turn it upside down, it sifts… er… read the instructions.
But it did work for me, and the only reason I stopped using it was that when the cat got bigger he found it too cramped and started crapping on the floor instead. But it was the size, not the functioning, that was a problem for me.
I don’t know how to put one together either, but my brother uses one–or rather, my brother’s cat uses one–and it seems to work really well.
So good luck!
Thanks for the info! I’ve got it put together, but I just can’t wrap my brain around how it works. I am afraid that my lard-ass cat won’t use it, so we’re keeping the old ones around just in case.
And no, it’s not one of the electric/battery powered ones. You have to roll it to sift out the “clumps.”
I had one. It works like this: the clumps are heavier, and when you roll it the heavier stuff goes to the bottom (actually the top of the box, but when it’s rolled over it becomes the bottom). You do have to roll them over pretty far for it to work. The unused litter, being lighter, sifts into the grated area and is returned to the litterbox while the heavier clumps are deposited into the pull-out tray. When you right the box, the clumps remain in the tray.
The top on mine wouldn’t fit back on correctly after awhile, so I threw it out. I used it for about 2 years and it worked well. Make sure you have plenty of room to one side to roll it.
