I’ve had a beard since 1993, and I haven’t changed my beard-trimming habits.
I usually get my hair cut every 5-6 weeks; past that, my curly locks get a bit unruly. I had my last haircut 3 weeks ago, so I’m good for another 2-3 weeks, but I doubt that my hair salon will reopen that soon, so shagginess is in my near-term future.
I haven’t been clean shaven in years. I shave my neck maybe twice a week. Then I take a trimmer to it every so often. I just change up how long I trim it and how often. Currently trimming it to a #2 every other week or so.
I’m too thickish for electric shavers and I’ve had a blood-thinner beard since before the cardiac work but I’m I’m off warfarin now, have an N95 mask stashed, and will likely go face-bald before the next trip down to the county seat. Bothersome but prudent.
For comparison: I was full-white-bearded on many of our drives from stateside to Central America. I’d walk down a street. Little kids passing by stared at me, whispering “Santa Claus!” I aimed a camera near an elementary school to photo some notable bit, and dozens of students ran out to have their pictures taken by Santa Claus.
That’s past. Soon I’ll look like a tall Paul McCartney again. You’ve been warned.
Hehehe, I have sported several beards until recently. The wife dislikes them. To be honest I tend to grow them bushy and long (dipped my beard in my soup or beer too many times to count). So I shaved the last one off as a late valentine’s gift, and have kept my face clean other than fairly big sideburns since then (not quite 70’s sized, but I definitely have sideburns). I had planned to grow it back before some shows we had scheduled in late March/early April, but with no clubs open, that’s off.
Now, she’s going to want me to get my yearly haircut in April. I’m going to make her choose between the skullet (that flies away into muppet hair) or the beard for the time being. Even if I’m not out being a recreational cartoon rock star every weekend or so, I’ve got to keep part of it around. I have no idea why she prefers the non-muppet version of me.
I am. Started about a week ago with the CA statewide shelter in place order. Work is now 100 percent telecommute. Lots of gray and white. I’ll probably still shave my head tho, since I score high on the Norwood scale. I’m married, so I don’t have to impress anyone any more.
Good points about touching the face and wearing a mask. If I catch myself doing that I’ll shave again.
I was, but after a few days with the beard I found it demoralizing. I felt that maintaining the ritual of shaving would be better for keeping my spirits up, so that’s what I’ve been doing.
For the first time in my life this month, I am growing a mustache, with no benefit of a goatee or cheek scruff. That tuft of hair is just out there alone. It just seems so wrong. I would never do that if I had to go to work every day. So far its whispy and makes me look like a 1930s rake or an English butler.
Opposite. Head shaved. Beard trimmed. Thoroughly disappointed in America’s response to the #badhaircutolympics thus far. But you will steadily join the cause soon enough.
My wife is loving it, but it bothers me. I decided to take a selfie every month to see how it all ends up. Then I’ll post the photos on Facebook so my family/friends can mock me.
Yeah, that was another thought about keeping clean shaven. I know that a beard is a little more un-hygenic due to the beard having more surface area for the little bastards to hang out on your face, mostly covered in some extra oils.
But when I heard “Don’t touch your face!”, I thought “Yeah, that’ll be the day.” Even without a beard, I absentmindedly stroke my chin, not to mention poking my fingers in my itchy ears, scratching at a nose hair that’s poking me in the end of a nostril, or adjusting my glasses. I don’t really feel like I’m in control of my hands when I’m not directly asking them to do something. To quote the Robot Devil “These things are always touching me in… places.”
So, that nonsense isn’t happening. I’m washing my hands even when I suspect they are probably clean these days, though.
I haven’t shaved since Friday the 13th, the day my boss told me we would work from home until at least April 6. Partly just out of laziness, partly intentional. But this thread has me rethinking things. Like scabpicker (such an apropos username/post combo), I touch my face constantly, and with the beard even more so.
