I feel fortunate that what hair I have left is short enough that I can give myself a haircut with electric clippers and a #1 guard every 7-10 days. Not being able to go to the barber is one thing I don’t have to worry about.
So I did go ahead and shave off my pandemic beard, for the reasons listed here: I found myself constantly stroking my new beard; I didn’t think it would be a good idea when I had to go out in public to have what amounts to a fine particle collector around my mouth and nose; and since it looks like we’re all going to start wearing masks in public, beards and facemasks don’t work well together.
And the other non-CV reason: the hair on my head is still mostly dark, but my beard was coming in so gray I coulda been a mall Santa next Christmas if I kept it growing (assuming malls still exist next Christmas).
No, but I did shave my head completely a few days ago for the first time ever, Britney style. Who needs a barber? Thought I’d do it once while no one could see me. So I’m growing “quarantine hair”.
Well, I shaved mine this morning. I caught myself scratching and touching my face too much and figured this is not the time to go all Grizzly Adams. It was itchy at night as well, and I figured I was touching/scratching my face as I slept. Shaved my head, too (which was the default position before all this). I still don’t have to impress anyone, tho.
Yup. Growing a Trudeau style beard. I figured I’d just use this time to give my face a break (still shaving the neck!) Also, haven’t worn my contact lenses for over two weeks. Would definitely give my coworkers a shock.
The blood-thinner beard went away two days ago, first with dog-trimmers for the worst several inches, then a blade and cheap cream for detail work. Wore a med mask into the one necessary store - had to remove foggy eyeglasses. I didn’t collide with too many items.
I grow a full beard every fall and shave it every spring around this time. I saw no reason to change except this time I left just the 'stache with no chin stubble. I have to wear a mask at work now.
I started growing out my beard about a week before going into lockdown, so now it’s at the awkward stage. I’ve vowed, though, to not even trim it until I can get out of here. I mean, really, only my wife has to deal with it, and she doesn’t much care how long my beard is as long as I have one.
I’ve been shaving my head for decades now, so I don’t have to worry about that too much. My wife’s hair, though- particularly her bangs- will start to bother her soon, so eventually I’ll have to trim it for her.
I shaved it.
Made me look like a Hobo.
Oh good. When I saw you had bumped the thread I was worried that you were asking about how to disinfect your beard.
I’m enjoying mine. Been years since I had facial hair. Yes, I might touch it a little bit but to make up for it I’ve completely stopped my door handle licking habit.
If your glasses are fogging up, you need to work on your mask fitting.
Yes.
It looks like a hairbrush
Nope. I was clean shaven anyway, but I’ve kept shaving on weekdays along with wearing real clothing, combing my hair, etc… because it makes working from home feel more “real” than if I was dressing like The Dude and shambling around my house. Plus, my wife is not a fan of beards, so that makes being clean shaven easier anyway!
I’ve had a beard since 1992, and will never shave again (except for neck) unless I need facial surgery. It’s not going to be trimmed in the near future though - don’t trust myself to do it, and all the shops are closed.
My neighbour is growing one, but it doesn’t look good on her. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
What is a “blood-thinner beard”? Been on rat poison for years now and will be for life, but never heard of this.

The cardiologists recommended no blade-shaving while I was on warfarin and whatever else I was taking before the ablation last year and I’ve been lazy till now. YMMV.
