There doesn’t seem to be any way to search the users list effectively, or to see it in alphabetical order.
I don’t know him in person at all - hoping he’s well and just taking a break - but you can see his profile here. Last seen on June 11.

I know how to find somebody’s profile from their post. But if you’re not looking at a post by them, how do you find a specific poster?

Well, I did it with direct URL editing. For any user, you can just go to https://boards.straightdope.com/u/[User name in all lower case, but with the _ where they had spaces in vB]/summary. If you aren’t comfortable with direct editing URLs, you could search for the user with the regular search, click on one of their posts, then click the username?

Thanks. I thought I had searched and found nothing; but I think it might just have been searching the bit of the members’ list that was onscreen at any one time. Searching while in this thread did bring up some posts in old threads, and the member info does come up with those, though there’s no activity since June 12, well before we came here.
(I also have no problem editing an URL. Do some people? A lot of people at least occasionally type one in from scratch, after all, and could easily hit a wrong key.)
But knowing there’s been no activity whatsoever since that thread was posted only adds to my worry.

Is there anyone reading this who’s on the Straight Dope Facebook group? If so, could you post a question about Sicks Ate there, or try to contact him through Facebook? I’ve heard he’s been on the group [ETA: not necessarily recently], possibly under his IRL name; but I don’t have a Facebook account so can’t check there myself.
I have a FB account, but am not in the SD group there.
He and I aren’t connected on FB, but I found his name in the list of SDMB names, found him in the comments about that list, and sent him a message. Of course, there’s no telling if he’s reading his “Other Messages” or even FB, but I did tell him folks are worried and to please stop by.
It’s easy enough to join, I think. Not sure if you even have to be approved, but I R Not an Admin. Still, click here and ask to join and see what happens. It’s not an active group, but some of us have become friends beyond the scope of the group.

That’s really nice, thank you guys. I’m fine for the most part. I had a bit of a meltdown for a while, which is never easy to deal with. I’m ok, I’m just not ready to get out on Dope / FB etc. again yet. Tell anyone interested it’s nothing personal, except for a few, and they know who they are. Haha.
