The Sonos wireless system. I’m thinking of getting rid of the radio and ipod and going with this system that streams from the intertoobs and my music library. Any of you have any experience with this system or something similar? Any problems?
I’ve always preferred my stereo sound coming from two speakers. I’m sure it sounds great, but that’s just me. Looks pretty pricey too.
Absolutely zero help, my friend.
We just got 2 Sonos Play1s at Christmas. We were thinking about the Play3 a year ago. (Play1s weren’t out then I believe) but it was just too expensive. We ended up buying something fairly cheap and I wasn’t happy with it since it wasn’t that usable for what we wanted . Hubby is a cheapskate (as he should be) and didn’t want to replace it. I bought him a Play1 for Christmas and we’ve loved it so much that he bought another one with some Christmas gift money. It’s one of very, very few purchases that he’s suggested
We are an Android household so can’t offer you any Apple help. We don’t have any complaints. We have a small house and this provides the coverage that we need. We stream Pandora and music from Amazon/Google Play quite easily. The devices are easily controlled by our phones and our PCs. One big selling point is that they are quite configurable so that we can easily play music on 1 but not the other or on both. In the future, we can add other components as needed. I still think it’s expensive but we’ve used it almost day since we got it. We did get the Bridge and there was a promotion where it was free with a Play1 purchase.
Good information. I’m looking to probably get 2 or 3 to start with. They can be moved around, so if we want to take one out onto the deck, it would just be a matter of plugging it in. So you think the Play1 provides good sound/bass? I’ll be streaming from my PC, probably mostly from Accuradio.com, my iTunes library, and a local jazz station. It’s expensive, all right, but this is a small house and just not a good fit for a component stereo system. In fact, I sold my last two component systems when we moved here four years ago.
I’ve got two Play1 in my house and absolutely love them. I use them mostly to play Pandora or to stream the music from my phone. I’ve been using them nearly every day since October and really haven’t found anything to complain about with them.
I’m not really an audiophile so take my advice with a grain of salt. I think the sound quality is very good on the Sonos (especially given the size of the speakers). The layout of our house isn’t conducive to a component stereo system either.
We use sonos throughout our house. Great sound, easy to use. Use the sound bar for our main TV.
Can also be hooked up to your existing speakers, which we have done for our built in speakers in kitchen. No proplems running our iTunes music from computer through Sonos. Love that we can have different pandora stations playing in different rooms. One of my favorite products.
Well, I went ahead and ordered a Play 1 and the wireless bridge. Thanks for the comments.
I love my sonos but only seem to have one issue. When I play music directly from my phone, the songs very often cut off. When I play songs from the drive, it never happens.
It arrived today and I have it set up for my iTunes library. The sound is freaking awesome and the unit is very compact. Waiting for the Bridge unit so I can relocate it to another central location.
This thread is about three years old but i don’t see anything more current. Prices must have come down because i bought a 1 and a 3 for about $500.
SiriusXM is the only thing I’ve used to run it so far. I don’t have any music at all on my phone or laptop. I may upgrade to Spotify Premium specifically to use it thru the Sonos.
What other apps do you like?
Is there anything available to run FM streams?
There are tons of FM stations that stream. You can use Sonos to look for them by genre.
I have 4 Sonos speakers/bridges. The sound was great. Unfortunately, after my daughter downloaded all her Korean k-pop onto my library, the library crashed and now my computer cannot find my library. Have no idea how to fix it.
One day I’ll pony up the $100 to get an audio expert back at my house, but for now I am using my Sony amplifier instead.
I’ve recently looked at getting a Sonos because Deezer streams lossless FLAC tracks, but only through Sonos. But I’m not sure if the Sonos speakers are good enough to tell the difference between FLAC and 320Kbps tracks. And the Connect player that would use my own amp and speakers is pricey at $350. But I digress. Just wanted to point out that Deezer can play lossless tracks on Sonos.
AccuRadio is free, no ads, unlimited skips and hundreds of quality channels. A Sonos dream.
I can’t comment on that, but very few people’s ears are good enough to tell that difference, so the speakers are probably mostly irrelevant.
These instructions may help. I used it to find my library when I changed computers.
