So it looks like I need a replacement for my old Sonos speaker...any good replacements?

The latest version of the Sonos mobile app has removed the ‘music on this device’ option, so I can no longer play songs directly from my phone to my Sonos speaker.
Is there a similar product that will let me do that? I don’t want to have to stream music from my laptop, because that means having it plugged in and turned on somewhere all the time and when I’m working during the day there’s not a lot of space for it.
And I don’t want to use a streaming service, I’ve got all the music I want right here on my phone. So is there some other decent sounding speaker I can get that will do what my Sonos used to do? I’ve got some small bluetooth speakers, but they don’t sound nearly as good and I have to remember to charge them.

How old is your Sonos speaker? Would replacing it solve the problem? I know they’re expensive, is that a determining factor?

The speaker isn’t the problem, though it is probably seven or 8 years old. The problem is the functionality in the app for mobile has changed.

We use the bluetooth solution. Seems like a lot of things are heading that way. There are a LOT of good quality bluetooth speakers out there right now. And with those, you can play ANY music/video sound phone calls through them without any app.

Personally, we have a small Altec Lansing H20 speaker and it has very good sound for a room. If you are looking outside or something, you would probably need something else.

Yeah, I may have to go that route. I was hoping to avoid the bluetooth because of the need to pair/unpair all the time (for example, I want to listen to music while I work, but when a call comes in I don’t want that to come through the speaker so the whole house has to hear my conversation)
So I’d have to quickly un-pair before answering and then re-pair, unless there’s one with an option to only pair for music and not calls.

Are you sure you didn’t inadvertently install the S2 controller on your phone?

I have the S1 controller (just updated) and it is playing music from my phone.

I’m surprised by this, as we use iPhones and iPads for the Sonos, we’re up to date on the app, and it’s working fine. Is it an Android thing?

Bose makes individual speakers that will link to phones with Bluetooth. I hate their software, but the speakers are ok.

I think you have something wrong in your settings. It works fine for me. It’s not time to replace your entire speaker system until you troubleshoot that.

Did you call sonos customer support? They are outstanding.

It worked fine for me too…until the latest update to the app. I haven’t called them, but I have seen other people complaining about the same issue in the forums with no resolution. Are you using version 15.4 for an android device?
