I first encountered the phrase decades ago, in National Lampoon. I didn’t get it then. Lately I saw the term used to describe Nancy Pelosi. I don’t get it now. My internet searches have not been helpful in explicating this term. A little help?
I have a guess. Freezer tape, pulls the flesh back on the face, holding it in frozen position. If you look online you can find references to Eagle Freezer tape.
You’ll sometimes see references to something similar as a lifting or refreshing technique for the face in make up guides. Models (Heidi Klum famously) will also do something similar by taking small braids by the cheeks and pulling them back and up off the face.
Just a guess.
^ Didn’t Pee Wee Herman do something like that at the beginning of his first movie?
I read a claim that Pelosi had a dermatologist freeze her face with liquid nitrogen to keep from showing wrinkles and this is why she was called a freezer eagle.
I think the person who named her this is mistaken because the liquid nitrogen treatment is to treat blemishes and sun damage, not wrinkles.
Well, thanks for the input, but none of that really adds up to anything real coherent, IMHO.
I could not find ANY references to eagle freezer tape on Google, other than a link to this thread, and to the fact that Giant Eagle groceries sells freezer tape.
You are right. I blame the flu. I think I pulled a few things together. They made sense at the time. :smack:
Freezer eagle refers to a turkey. It isn’t very common but a google search for the term along with something like “turkey” or “thanksgiving” will yield examples of it used in that context.
A blessing on your head! Makes perfect sense now!
Classic, you have mixed up WHY (the treatment) and RESULT (The result of the treatment.) That the result of the treatment must be limited to WHY the treatment was done.
But There are of course side effects.
You say freezing is only used to remove blemishes. But I notice that sun damage occurs to the skin on the cheek bone… so if the blemishes are removed from the cheek bone, then a freezer eagle effect would occur just because of that .
Sun spots/moles can be the cause, but the result can be wrinkle reduction.
In other human endeavour, the result can be even ironic compared to the cause. eg Build a dam to reduce flooding, but once built, it might cause flooding. Sometimes its not so ironic. Build a dam to reduce flooding, result, wetlands dry up providing for dry land for some use or another. Just because there was a political or monetary justification based on one cause, doesn’t mean it can’t have a different (additional ,or sometimes alternative ) result.
