Anybody like Propellerheads?

I was just listening to their cd (which I’ve had for 2 years now) and decided i love it. Does anybody know if they’ve made another album? Any favorite tracks?

Only song I’ve heard by the Propellerheads is “History Repeating” featuring the vocal stylings of Shirley Bassey. That was a few years ago. I like that song, but I don’t know any others.

Anyone that’s seen the Matrix has heard at least one of their tracks. (hint, the lobby scene).

Course, I’ve only heard 3 more of their tracks, but I like them all.

Nobody cared, but a new album is comin up in 2003.

The Propellerheads, of course, rock.
Had their album for a few years and I had forgotten that I meant to get the ep.
Thanks for the reminder Alex

Hey! So there’s someone else on these boards who digs thundering breakbeats and basslines.

To the best of my knowledge, their first ever release was an EP on Wall of Sound called “Dive,” the lead track of which featured in a fairly prevalent Adidas commercial sometime in '95 or '96 IIRC. Along with the flipside track “Lethal Cut,” these two are probably my favorite Propellerheads tunes. If you like these guys, try to track this one down.

The album’s good too, though it meanders a bit much for my liking. Another one on the way, huh? That’s bound to be interesting.

Alex Gifford (one of the two who make up the duo) played over here in summer 2001 IIRC, and basically all he did was sit on stage in front of a baby grand piano and croon bluesy jazz ballads. Additionally, I heard through the grapevine that this new album would be somewhat more in that vein and somewhat less, well, action-filmy. I’ve yet to decide whether that’s a good or bad thing.

Big PH fan here.

Aw crap, Fnoonf. Say it ain’t so.

Propellerheads-type electronica was the only kind I could stomach. Too many other breakbeat artists would have songs that would slowly build up over the period of a half-hour. And other forms of electronica seemed designed merely to be background music to other activity. Which is why they called it ambient, I suppose.

Propellerheads stood up on its own without needing a lame-ass rave or a non-threatening Toyota commercial.

The only other CDs I could find with that feel were Cirrus’ Back on a Mission and a handful of Crystal Method songs.

Problem is when you say electronica, people think of Moby. Blech.

Propellerheads are alright in my opinion. I especially like their track “Take California”. Thats a pretty mad track, but I’m a sucker for crazy samples from old movies or whatnot.

Velvet Pants

Send the first kid down…send the first kid down…

OK, even though I’m a white guy with rhythm (if i do say so myself), but absolutely no dancing ability, maybe it’s weirdthat I love this kind of bass heavy dance music, but there it is. Can you gus suggest some similar band to check out? Is it sacrilege to mention Moby in the same breath? What about Fat Boy Slim?

I’ve only heard ‘Decksanddrumsandrockandroll’ and have been wondering if Propellerheads were through, having not released an album since then. I can’t wait to hear the new one, it seems like every song on ‘Decks…’ was very enjoyable, not like some electronica albums that come off as repetitive and boring. Sitting through ‘Spybreak!’ or ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ never seemed like a chore, as other songs around that length. Shirley Bassey’s vocals on ‘History Repeating’ are great, that song really helps a lot of people get into them I think. It was pretty mainstream, and eases you into the Propellerheads style. Another vote for ‘Velvet Pants’, those samples (‘I find him very attractive… he’s wearing velvet pants’ and ‘We hustled our way in… everybody had long hair’) make for great references among friends.

DaddyTimesTwo: check out Underworld, because they will blow your mind. Especially the live album Everything Everything.

Also good is the Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Roni Size, Basement Jaxx, and if you’re feeling experimental, check out Aphex Twin.

I revolve around music… it’s all i know!

They all have their little thing that they like

I liked a little less than half of Decksanddrumsandrockandroll
Take California
Velvet Pants
History Repeating

There were a couple really boring songs on that record as well.
