So I’m trying to educate myself about electronica/industrial/dance music. I just got the Chemical Brothers’ Singles 1993-2003 and Crystal Method’s Legion of Boom. The Crystal Method seems to have a fatter bottom end, richer tones throughout. The arrangements may be just a tad richer as well. The other artists I’ve listened to in that broad genre are Propellerheads, Chemlab, NIN, Moby, Tabla Beat Science, and a little bit of 808 State.
I’d appreciate insight from any/everyone on the bands I’ve mentioned and recommendations for things you think I’d like, based on what I’ve listed above.
My taste in music is VERY wide-ranging, and covers several of the artists you mention. I started listening to the Chemical Brothers when their video for Setting Sun was on MTV’s Amp many years ago. I would suggest their album Brothers Gonna Work It Out too. I also like the Crystal Method, NIN, Moby, and what little I’ve heard of the Propellerheads. Based on those, I would also suggest you might also like these: Fluke, Filter, Faithless, Prodigy, Curve, and maybe even Boards of Canada (VERY different from the others, but still fits to some degree). If I think of others, I’ll throw them in. Also, if your tastes include trance and down beat kind of stuff, I can offer a few suggestions there too.
I also suggest you look into Apoptygma Berzerk, Assemblage 23, Icon of Coil, Hate Dept., Covenant, Echo Image, Recoil, BT, Haujobb. I’d give you links for those, but I don’t have them off-hand, and I’m far to lazy to look them up now.
Fatboy Slim’s “Better Living Through Chemistry” is quite good, also his album “You’ve Come a Long Way Baby”. I also like the group The Art of Noise, especially their albums “The Drum and Bass Collection” and “The Best of The Art of Noise”. Gus Gus’ “Polydistortion” is good too. Look for compilations too, that way you can “sample” more varied artistic stylings. You can listen to a few of the songs on these albums on these links. “Better Living Through Chemistry”“You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby”“Polydistortion”“The Best of The Art of Noise”“The Drum and Bass Collection”
