Help me find new electronic/dance music.

Not sure what the genre is exactly. But I really love electronic music that has vocals and a beat you can dance to. The music doesn’t have to have vocals although I prefer it. Right now I only know of a few bands that match this style: Daft Punk, Fischerspooner, Cut Copy and Justice.

I’m open to any new suggestions. Also I’d really appreciate Youtube links to some of your favorite songs. Thanks.

Have you ever listened to much Goldfrapp? Their albums “Black Cherry” and “Supernature” are both very dance oriented for the most part.

Ooh La La
Ride a White Horse
Strict Machine
Number One

You also might want to look up bands under the genre generally referred to as Electroclash. That might be what you’re looking for.

You might also enjoy Freezepop or Ladytron.

Crystal Method is an obvious band to check out, esp 10 miles back for your vocal electronica needs (and I know its You)

Monkey Mafia

Fc Kahuna

Naked Funk

I think you would like old school house music. Check out Frankie Knuckles.

I forgot to mention a couple of bands that I like.

Anyone heard of Familjen? They’re a swedish electronic band. I really like their single Det snurrar i min skalle but I’m not sure how the rest of the album sounds. Is it worth buying?

I also like Röyksopp, but don’t own any of their albums. I’ve heard a few of their songs on Youtube and Remind Me and What Else Is There? seem to stick out.

Thanks for the recommendations so far. I’ll definitely check them out. Please keep them coming

The Pet Shop Boys have a new album out which is getting rave reviews. If you’re on Facebook you can add their page and add an AOL widget that has all the songs so you can hear them all for free. If you poke around on YouTube there a lot of cool fan and DJ mixes of current and older stuff you might want to check out as well.

I love electronic and dance music, and Justice are one of my absolute favorite bands. To such an aficionado as myself, the four artists you mentioned seem like a fairly varied group, so I’ve listed some things here that match each of them.

And we can’t talk about classic house without mentioning Larry Levan!

If you like Daft Punk, the individual members Thomas Bangalter and takes a deep breath Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have done some excellent solo work which can be found on their record labels, Roulé and Crydamoure. Bangalter and some other musicians whose names currently escape me also teamed up as ‘Stardust’ to create the fantastic “Music Sounds Better With You”.

A lot of the music in this realm that I have discovered, I found through the brilliant DJ/musician/producer/remixer Erol Alkan who has done a lot of mixes that are available as podcasts; I highly recommend them.

I used to listen to a genre sometimes called synthpop… great for working out (which I find is similar to dancing…) I liked the bands assemblage 23 (kinda gothy and very danceable–the CD has the beats on the back for DJs I think) and a much more upbeat band called Iris. Very different bands but you could give them a try!

On a completely different note, the band !!! (yes, that is their name) did some good dance stuff but not so much electronic I guess. They were most well known for a ridiculously long song called Me and Giuliani Down in the Schoolyard. The rest of their stuff didn`t really live up to the hype (also they were total dicks when I saw them in concert) but they had some good songs. More in the dancepunk genre. Also Radio 4 and more recently MGMT but those are well-known bands.

So that is a very diverse collection of bands but I hope one or two might appeal to you! Most of them can be found on YouTube.

Also not to point out the obvious but Cut Copy basically seems to be a homage to bands like Depeche Mode… you checked them out?:stuck_out_tongue:

Go to www.pandora.com and type in a song or artist that you like. It will respond by playing a list of songs that are musically similar, but from artists you may not have heard of. You can vote “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” on each one until you hone it to your particular interests…TRM
