Anybody reading the New Jedi Order series?

I did start reading it, and stopped sometime after the Han teamed up with a new buddy- I forget which novel it was. Can anyone explain what’s been happening in the last, what is it now, 46 books? Are there any worth reading alone? And how do the Vong capture and occupy Coruscant?

The last book, dealing with the captured Solo was very good. It started off kind of slow but I found it interesting. Oh, Hans new Buddy was only in a few (two?) books, he did not become the replacement Chewy.
Coruscant was taken in a HUGE battle.

I have found the books to one degree or another pretty good reads. They pass the time and suspend belief, better than I thought the movies (1 & 2) anyway.

I LOVE the Enemy Lines books, Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand by Aaron Allston. We get to see the Wraiths again! YAY!!! And WES!!!

Allston is my favorite SW author.

Okay, NJO books: marks the ones I’ve read. I’ve read them out of order, but so what?

And there are a few e-books-but I do believe one of them will be released with Star by Star when it comes in paperback, so I’m assuming that the others will too.

Okay, the Vong capture Coruscant in Star by Star, which is really sad-I’m going to warn you.

I bought Vector Prime when it first came out in Paperback and I thought it sucked. Then, I saw that Allston was writing again, so I picked it back up.

I just wish that they’d do more X-Wing books. THE WRAITHS RULE!!!

Okay, I’ll shut up now.

Wow, a lot more books have come out since I last looked. I read Zahn’s books and the Jedi Academy trilogy, but once the X-Wing books came out, I became engrossed in those and kinda lost interest in the regular storyline. I guess I found the stories of the “regular guys” more interesting, even if Rogue and Wraith aren’t your regular fighter squadrons.

The mixing of storylines gets confusing at times. How many times as Coruscant traded hands now?

I’m working my way through “Rebirth” at the moment, so I get to start on Star by Star next.

Oh, and to tack onto Guin’s list: don’t forget the Chewbacca mini-series (also in paperback) published by Dark Horse Comics. It’s largely a posthumous retelling of Chewie’s life, but the framing device (3P0 and R2 taking interviews) is set in the NJO era, and includes a flashback to Chewie’s death on Sernpidal.

Yeah, this is the fourth time Couruscant’s been captured in the past couple of decades, but hey, what’re you going to do? Pus, they killed that rat-fink Borsk Fey’lya, which softened the blow.

One complaint I have about the books is Jacen Solo. What a whiny priss. Shame they killed his brother, instead of him.

Apparently, there are only a few (well, less than 10) NJO books left, and the last comes out next year. After that, Del Rey says that they’re going to continue publishing SW books, but in the pre-NJO period. What that means, I’m not sure, but those supporting characters better watch their backs…

Minor Irritant-read Traitor-you just may change your mind.

BTW, what does everyone think of Vergere? Is she nuts? Or was she right about the Dark Side?

Rossarian-read Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand-the Wraiths are back! Face is my all time favorite character.

I too prefer the regular peeps over the Jeedai.

Wait… what? Another Anikin is dead now? How’d that happen?

Nuts. Should have put a spoiler warning there, but I figured that I wouldn’t need to, as it happened in the same book, Star by Star, in which Coruscant was captured. I’m really sorry about that, Silentgoldfish.

He sacrificed himself destroying the last of the voxyn (Jedi hunting monster) genetic material.

Actually, I spoiled myself with this bit of information, as I picked up the new Essential Guide to Characters before reading Star by Star (as, being extremely cheap, I always wait for SW books to come out in paperback - which is why I haven’t read Traitor yet, Guin).

Traitor’s gonna have to be pretty good to change my opinion of Jacen - “Uh, I won’t use the Force to save people, because that’d be wrong. Unless they’re my mother, of course.” Jerk.

Ah, well. At least the new Guide is very, very pretty…

Traitor is in paperback, you nerfherder!

It’s really weird, but it’s pretty good. Vergere is still crazier than a shithouse rat, though.

Hey, did they ever explain why Nom Anor looked just like Darth Vader in the first book? I’m assuming at this point that it was a red herring…

And have the Vong gotten close to Naboo yet, or is Naboo “off limits” for NJO purposes?

I think Naboo is off limits. As far as we know, we may see it destroyed in Episode III (I’m thinking, anyhoo) or at least more action there.

Nerfherder? Why, I oughta…

I’ll read Traitor once SBS comes out in paperback. I usually read NJO books three, four at a time. The Vong scenes often leave me weak in the knees (Bloodletting? Amputation? Guh!), so I need to be in the right frame of mind.

So, think we’ll find out where the Vong come from before the series ends? Hopefully, it’ll be as messed up as it’s inhabitants are.
