Marble Madness. Bizarre arcade game from the '80s. I’ve been looking for a remake for a while now.
Finally… this way lies Marble Madness (renamed Rolling Madness). For some reason, that person has taken it upon themself to recreate the full game with original music and give the thing away for free. The mind boggles.
I love it. The graphics are enhanced with options to change the camera angle in mid-play and there is a 3-D mode that makes it feel like you’re right there in marble land.
It seems to be a tad buggy in spots and I had to fight with it to get it to display right on my laptop. Also it doesn’t seem to work well if you have anything else running in the background (I have a feeling it’s a huge resource hog). Also it takes some getting used to using a mouse instead of a track ball, but I’m a quick study
Anyone remember SpinDizzy? In the absence of a real Marble Madness game on the 8-bit Atari computer I had at the time (and it being absent from my local arcades), this became my favourite substitute. It was less a race and more a kind of marble-based platform style game but it was hella fun.
When I upgraded to the Atari ST, the original wasn’t available, but its spiritual sequel, SpinDizzy Worlds was, and that was also quite fun.
What are these “trackballs” and “mouse” crutches that you speak of?
Most of the hours I spent playing this game were via keyboard commands on an Apple. It wasn’t until many years later when I was in high school and I saw people playing it on Nintendo at a party that I realized just how handicapped my formative years with the game had been.
I may be lucky but I can’t play it, I get the following error when I try to play it
