Missed the pilot; don’t really think I missed much. Basically something really weird happened that caused the entire country to go to martial law, and there’s a bunch of special people with Bar Codes On Their Necks (which gets brought up ad nauseum), and a lot of creepy people want Max dead/recaptured for some reason. I think I can hash it out from there.
Saw most of the second episode. Very nearly gave up on it after it pulled that moronic think-there’s-gonna-be-sex-but-there-isn’t scene (more wonderful unoriginality), and even better, it even had the poor sap thinking he really did get it on. I am as vehemently opposed to half-baked “suggestive” garbage that goes absolutely nowhere as anyone can be and certainly don’t need to see it on an action show, for crying out loud. Then there was a bunch of road scenes, a lot of sneaking around, and the ever-popular trip into the past (Waitaminnit, if this is the future why not start with that, and then move on to…never mind.). And Max does kick some butt.
Okay, there may be some redeeming qualities to Dark Angel, but frankly, there’s nothing here that something else doesn’t do better. JAG has a far more accurate view of the military and compelling personalities I can really get into. Xena: Warrior Princess has much better action sequences, a much less cardboard heroine, and, though you rarely hear about it, great dialogue. Batman Beyond has cooler futuristic gizmos. And any number of websites and video stores have vast quantities of the fate that Max was oh so lucky to have been spared. :rolleyes:
So yeah, it delivers on what it was supposed to deliver, but that’s not enough to get me to watch again.
