snerk…I wondered how long it would take
Mmmm. Damn.
That’s some hot action right there.
Kinky. Really kinky.
I shave my goldfish, but its really hard to tell the difference.
Wow. I’d really like to clip my dog myself, but I had no idea shavers were so expensive.
Do any of the less expensive ones work at all well?
I’ve owned dogs and been around them my entire life.
My Wife, not quite as much but did work as an animal control officer for about 5 years. She knows dogs too. We have two great dogs right now, and two cats.
I never had to clip or shave a dog until my Dad bought a Cocker Spaniel. The first time we clipped her, it took us 8 hours. Yep. 8 hours (we certainly allowed breaks so the dog was never in any distress [though my Wife and I where, it can be difficult]).
We don’t just shave the dog, though that would be much, much easier. My Dad feels that the dog gets too embarrassed if we do that ( ). We are lucky to be able to work on the dog at all. So my Wife and I work it, try not to make a big deal out of it and as NIKE says, just do it.
If you are not dealing with matted hair, then less expensive clippers should be fine. A trim of the feathers down the legs and removing some clean hair around ears and such.
If you are dealing with an animal that has mats. You want the V8. And a change of clothes. And beer. And a shop vac, and some sheets.
Hmmm. With that said, yes, good clippers are expensive. My Father has a less expensive brand that does work (though he does not use them).
We will set up both clippers, so that one does not get too hot. Though the Oster would probably run all day. But we don’t want the clipper head to become too warm for the dog.
Did anyone else read the title as “Anybody shave your pelts”? Kinda puts a new spin on things:-)
We had someone bring us their cat once because it would walk a little then plop down and hiss and growl at it’s back end. They were in a panic because obviously he must have some horrible injury or disease, right? No, he was just one big mat and he couldn’t walk because it pulled at his hair. He was much happier and miraculously cured after we shaved him. It came off in almost one big piece, we should have sent it to Donald Trump as a spare hairpiece. I had to wonder if they ever pet their cat.
As the owner of a Persian that will bite you (hard!) when you brush anything other than her head, I can tell you that it’s easy to let it get to that point if you’re not careful.
Thank you. This dog does not have mats. The reason I’d like to clip her has to do with the heat. She’s a Chihuahua/Corgi mix and is very long haired (oddly). Her companion is a Feist with very short hair. They love to take walks with me, but in the summer I have to leave the ChiCorgi behind because she gets too hot. I’d love for her to be able to go walking with us in the hot weather. Going after sundown does not help (humidity, and short legs, perhaps). The girls are both outside dogs (year-round).
OTOH she’s white with a lot of pink skin (black skin under her two black hair spots). Hubby worries that a short shave will cause sunburn.
What do you think?
I was going to throw the urban legend Carson joke out there, but couldn’t quite figure out how to word it.
I have a long haired cat myself, all my short haired cats love to be brushed, she hates it and will bite. Whenever she starts to get the armpit and back leg matts I have to take her to work with me and hold her while someone shaves her for me. I hold her because if my cat’s going to bite someone at my work it had better be me that she bites. Strangely enough, she is actually a little easier to handle at work and she doesn’t usually manage to bite me there. People that don’t work at a vet’s office do have the option of taking their cat somewhere for grooming and they don’t even have to hold them for it.
A short hair cut will allow your dog to get sunburn. Also, the longer hair can insulate them from the heat as well; according to my vet they are used to the amount of hair they have and the body compensates. However, I field cut my mutt at least once a year because of matting and then we make sure she isn’t out in the sun if there are some too short spots. We use a Oster with a 10 blade.
This cat appears to be crusted with Orange Julius.
And his name is Julian. He looked very odd when he was shaved. The Orange Julius effect I believe came from the fact that the groomer was just trying to get the mats off, not clipper him smooth, so he ended up with places where his very fluffy undercoat was a bit longer.
He was another one from whom the groomer removed a solid mat that could have served as Trump’s toupee. I’ve often wondered if he matted so badly because he spends A LOT of time lolling around on his back.
That was last summer. I’ve kept ahead of the matting since then by combing him semi-regularly.
Our cat, Midnight, had always had a paralyzed and insensate tail, so we have frequently trimmed and shaved her (We bought an electric cat trimmer for precisely this purpose).
So, yes, even though I’m a guy, I do shave my pussy.
This isn’t my cat, but he’s definitely shaved: cat buns. Maybe NSFW if your work doesn’t approve of naked cats.
??? You’ve been here for awhile, so I’m assuming that’s not the link you meant to link?
Um, no. Wow, I know I looked at that link the other day from some other thread, but I am not sure how it got here. Oddly enough, that is not really SFW either. Anyway, here are the real cat buns.
