I went on mine last week. My Dad and I visited the Taos Pueblo and the Kit Carson museum (getting both sides of the story, you know.) Later we went to Colorado and saw the Royal Gorge, which my grandfather almost fell down into in 1930. I saw my first wild bighorn sheep near there. On the eastern New Mexican plains I saw a lot of antelope, which I haven’t seen in more than 10 years–their numbers have been reduced by drought.
We also saw the Vietnam Vets museum in Angel Fire, NM. We were the only visitors there, though I’d guess they got a lot of visitors on Memorial Day.
I’m going soon, but it’s more a once-in-a-lifetime vacation than a plain ol’ summer vacation. My grandparents are taking me with them on a cruise to Alaska. They’re in their nineties, and will feel better having me there to look after them, so they sprung for a cabin all for me and won’t even let me pay for any excursions. They don’t really like to get off the boat, so I’ll be doing all of that stuff by myself.
I’m watching the calendar in anticipation. I can’t believe it’s almost here.
Mr. SCL and I went to Central Florida last month. The main purpose of the trip was a long-overdue visit to relatives, but we went to Kennedy Space Center, Cirque de Soliel, Sea World and !!Discovery Cove!!.
In just over two weeks I’m going to Belize, for a week long diving cruise. Belize has the second largest barrier reef in the world, so I’ll be taking my underwater camera and a lot of blank CDs to hold the photos. I may post a trip report when I return.
I am completely with you on all points mentioned above. The highlight of my summer will be going to Wisconsin Dells to visit my family and point and laugh at all of the tourists in funny hats.
