Yeah, the investigation mission involving looking up Arabic characters was annoying. The Archaeological one where you’re unlocking secret chambers Indiana-Jones style was cool, though.
You know, it never really clicked with me that I didn’t need 5 resources for my hammer and shotgun consumers. I’d always assumed I did more damage with a full consumer, but now that I think about it, it may not be enough to make up for the dps done consuming every 3… I’ll have to experiment some. I do like that shotgun can use 2 finishers every other cycle, though, since Buckshot doesn’t consume resources. I usually do a Buckshot + Takedown every 5, then use either Hell to Pay in a pack or Aftershock. Now to see how a 3-builder rotation performs!
In beta, I found that a basic Fists build was more efficient if you simply alternated Claw and Hog Wild than if you built up extra resources before hitting Hog Wild. Fast animations and the extra bit of damage from Savage Sweep may be why that combo is a bit special.
I like to run around soaking up atmosphere and looking at cool stuff too. Plus I feel like a real superhero when I stumble upon a much newer player struggling and heal them up so they can win a fight! I like reading the Lore, but I would prefer to get all the pieces and read the full thing in one go - re-reading makes the quirky style become annoying.
FYI, Cardiac Arrest doesn’t consume any blood resources. Its only limitation is the 30 second recharge. Very useful when you get caught unawares.
Reading about the complexity of builds makes me glad I chose to pursue a prefab deck to start. It’s all a little confusing! Between synergies and so forth, and crafting, I could spend soooo much time on this game, beyond what I already am.
It’s more or less true of any consumer that consumes all resources, as I understand it. More resources will make the consumer deal more damage, but not that much. In terms of DPS you get more out by simply hitting the consumer whenever it’s ready regardless of how many resources you’ve built.
I noticed that when I went to swap it into my build. It’s handy, but it hasn’t bumped my damage up much, and I’ve already got fairly regular stuns from a Chaos passive I like (Pressure Point). When I unlock a Blood consumer with better damage, Cardiac Arrest will get replaced. My next goal is Exquisite Corpse, though; I want to see how the reflective shield plays.
Here’s a handy reference I found linked from the official forum: TSW Ability Wheel
Probably true, though other factors control my use of resources in my current build. If you’re using something that can build resources out of combat, you can get a little extra on the first hit by starting full, but it generally doesn’t seem worth it once you’re in the thick of it. The magic ones tend to have longer animation times, though, so comparing the DPS can be a bit tricky.
Some passives can also muck with your setup. I’ve got Elemental Force in my bar, which makes every 8th hit crit automatically. When I start a fight, I’ll either use 7 builders or else 1 builder, my channeled Pistol consumer which I’ll interrupt after 2 hits, then 4 more builders. Either way, I try to line it up so that I have 5 Elemental Resources so I can drop a critted Thor’s Hammer on the enemy. It’s very satisfying to watch it smash a quarter of the enemy’s life in one hit (and frustrating as hell when they evade, but).
Didn’t know if this was worth a new thread but this game just went free to play, with no restrictions. You still need to buy the box, well worth it IMO.
Yeah. I’m not completely happy about it given that I bought the Grandmaster Pack (lifetime subscription) but I think they did it in the best possible way if they had to do it to keep the game alive. Free players just have to buy the box, and people who choose to pay get extra perks.
It’s a great game, and well worth a look. I need to pry myself away from WoW long enough to get back to it.
Well, it felt like a single player game most of the month I played so I guess now I can treat it as such without wondering why I’m paying a $15 recurring fee instead of buying three new $5 games.
There’s no reason to stay away if you haven’t tired it and like action RPGs. The main (solo-able) campaign is well worth the price of admission. They’ve been good about releasing updates with the 5th due next week. Each has added a few missions and some new content (a Halloween event, a raid, a theater, secondary weapons…). I’ve been playing since launch and I haven’t maxed out my character by a long shot.
I’m sympathetic to those that bought the grandmaster pack, since the game went free-to-play about halfway through the investment payback period, but they had to know that was the risk even before TOR went free.
Unless you’re into PvP and want to do it with your cabalmates, it doesn’t matter which server you’re on. They’re all like one big server anyway, and you can move around at will to join groupmates (you ‘join up’ with them) and everybody ends up temporarily on the server of one of group members.
If you want to play with friends, it’s more important to be in the same secret society (though even that doesn’t matter too much, since you can group with any faction for dungeons and questing. Again, it really only matters for PvP.
I don’t know how active the Doper community is in the game. I’m on Grim, and I lead a cabal called “Novus Ascension” (Illuminati). Not many people left, though, so we’re pretty quiet. If you don’t find a more active home you’re welcome to join us. Just send me a PM.
