I’m seeing a lot about this.
Have any of you used it? Does it suck?

My dad likes it, I have yet to see it interfere with any function of his computer.
I tried it once, but it was going to take something like 2 weeks to do the initial backup, and I actually use my computer so didn’t want to have to have the damn thing running all the time.
I use it, but only for the free two-gigabyte backup. I don’t remember how long that took but as I leave the computer on all the time, it didn’t matter. I like it but have never attempted to restore files. Note that there is another company called Carbonite that’s offers a similar product with unlimited backups for $55 per year. Carbonite doesn’t appear to have a free option.
I have it for a one year subscription. The initial download/upload, whatever you call it, the back up took about a week. But it ran in the background so it wasn’t that big of a deal. But it is slow.
Now it backups anything new at like 3am. So it is pretty non intrusive.
I haven’t had to pull anything back, so I can’t speak to that aspect, but I assume that it will work fine if/when I need the backup.
Thanks. I’m going to Florida with the kids for a week, so the long initial backup time shouldn’t be a problem.
IIRC, the initial backup ran at low priority, so it didn’t interfere with using the computer. Also it would restart if you interrupted is, such as by turning off the computer.
I use it for my Quicken files and a few things like that. I haven’t had to restore anything yet, though.
I use it to backup almost 80GB of stuff. Of course, my initial backup set was much less, and I’ve added to it over the months. The initial backup did take quite a while though. It was no big deal though, I just kept it running over consecutive nights.
I use it. We currently have over 260GB backed up on it. It took a few weeks to get it all uploaded. The only issue we had was my wife’s VPN wouldn’t work unless the backup was stopped. She would just shut the Mozy backup down when she needed to. Like others I haven’t had to do a restore, so I can’t speak to that.
I used it for a year, then I got me a Time Machine, a better deal IMO.
Unless my house burns down.
I used it for the iBook that I lost in a power surge in September. Worked fine and I was able to recover all of my files without any problems. As others have said, the initial back-up takes a while, but I didn’t have any issues with being able to use my computer while it was backing itself up.
And losing the iBook wasn’t nearly as traumatic as it would have been otherwise because I knew I could get back to everything I needed.
