Act fast, folks! In an hour or so I’m taking them over to my wife’s office; there’s at least one very interested party over there.

To be honest, I’m not really prepared to part with them TODAY; I thought this would take a while and I’d get a hance to adjust and all that.

missbunny, they’ll be 7 weeks on Friday; I’ve always heard 6 weeks as the time when they’re adoptable. Their mama is already gone, and on top of that they’re extremely grown-up, smart little dogs. They’re ready.

The absolute earliest puppies should leave their littermates is 7 weeks (49 days), and 7 week old puppies should only go to experienced homes that know how to properly imprint them. Puppies are usually weaned at six or seven weeks, but are still learning important skills as their mother gradually leaves them more and more. Ideally, puppies should stay with their littermates (or other role-model dogs) for at least (8-)12 weeks.

**Puppies separated from their littermates too early often don’t develop appropriate “social skills,” such as learning how to send and receive signals, what an “inhibited bite” means, how far to go in play wrestling and so forth. **Play is important to help puppies increase their physical coordination, social skills and learning limits. Interacting with their mother and littermates helps them learn “how to be a dog” and is also a way to explore ranking (“who’s in charge”).

**Skills not acquired during the first eight weeks may be lost forever. **While these stages are important and fairly consistent, a dog’s mind remains receptive to new experiences and lessons well beyond puppy-hood. Most dogs are still puppies, in mind and body, through the first two years.

You’ve done so much for these guys already, please do them the favor of keeping them together at least until they are 8 weeks old.
