As I described in this thread, my wife picked up a stray dog on the interstate a few months ago. We named her Zasu and found her a home, but there was a hitch; she had heartworms and was pregnant, so we had to keep her while she got treatment and had her puppies.
She gave birth to two beautiful little puppies on April 15, and now they’re old enough to go to homes of their own. They’re in perfect health, and they’re here in Memphis; if any Doper wants a puppy (or two!), we’ll drive a few hours to meet you halfway, if necessary.
We call the boy (the white one) “Brian” after the dog on Family Guy, and the girl (the black one) “Greta” after Garbo because she’s a recluse. Photos:
I WANNA PUPPY!!! Oh my Og, those are two of the cutest little puppies ever. Unfortunately, I’m not quite ready to get a puppy just yet. I’m sure you’ll have no problem finding homes for the little sweeties, though.
I am so glad I do not live near you or I would swing by, you know, just to see them, and the next thing you know I would be loading a 100 pound bag of Kibbles 'n Bits in the trunk on the way home…
And for the heck of it, here’s a short Quicktime movie (2.4 MB) of the puppies. A few weeks later, they’re about twice as big now as they were in the movie.
I would agree they’re at least part beagle; we’ve got a beagle mix who only occasionally shows her true colors–she doesn’t bark, she howls. In the middle of the night, no less.
Lovely, lovely puppies! I hope you find a good home for them.
Shirley Ujest, I couldn’t even speculate as to the breeds. Brian has short hair, and Greta’s getting a little shaggy. Brian does look sorta Beagle-ish. Their mama is about 20 pounds, skinny and hyper. (She’s gone to a home that has two small children, which will be perfect for her.)
I’m thinking these dogs have such a broad genetic mix in them that they’re just some kind of Basic Dog.
Brian is the spitting image of our first family dog Whizzer. Bestest, most smart dog ever. I don’t know what breeds he was, but the growing into his paws rule worked.
You’re going to find owners in no time, with two such cuties. It is indeed a good thing you’re way over there-- must resist puppies!
If I lived anywhere near Memphis, I wouldn’t be able to control myself, and you’d have a very willing adopter. However, I’m currently in NJ, and my parents would so not be okay with me stealing their car, driving to Memphis, and coming home with two more dogs, which they’d get stuck with when I went back to school.
Bro, I’d use this as an excuse to get you to come to Atlanta, but the sad truth is that it wouldn’t be fair to the pup for me to take him until I get out of school. I don’t suppose you and sis have a layaway program? grin
