Anybody Want A Rolex?

OK, I get my fair share of Spam, but lately I have been getting variants of the same idiotic thing way more often than the usual V IA_GRA, apporved mortgage and other nonsense. In the past 24 hours I have gotten:

Daily News - Rolex watches online
Rolex is what you want to wear
Come On In and Select a Rolex for you
Real Swiss watches online
You once said you liked Rolex
Re: your swiss watch order
Italian Rolex and throw away prices
Re: Rolex Order Details (twice)
Rolex is forever. Are you for it?
Sweetheart wants a Rolex?
Shop for Rolex here only
Rolex forever (twice)
Rolex is what I want you to wear
Order Rolex or other Swiss watches online
Rolex ? (twice)
A Grade Rolex - deadline blum

So if anybody is in the markert for a Rolex, cheap, I think I can hook you up.

Discalimer: I am not actually offering to hook anybody up with a Rolex watch or any variant or knockoff thereof.

Actually I prefer a Rado.

In 10 years, I have yet to put a scratch on it.

I’m partial to saying “Hey…anyone know what time it is?”

The last one I got purported to be from Jenna Bush.

Shodan

We’re discussing watches, not STDs.

I was going to start a thread about Watches, like what kind of watch do people have, brand names…all that good stuff. Now I dont have to.

I love watches…the more complicated the better. I own a Baume & Mercier Capeland and a Raymond Weil Tango. Someday, if I win a lottery, I’ll buy my dream watch, a Breguet.

I’m not too crazy about the Rolex’s… there just doesnt seem to be any refinement to them. I’m not putting down anyone else’s choice, many people own and love Rolex, I just never really got into them.

I just got offered a Ro-lex. It claimed to be a gen-uine rep-lica. Maybe I should send them a gen-uine reply*. :dubious:

  • of course, replying to gen-uine spam is always a really bad idea

Rolexes are middle class and really unhip. But I like them.

Back when I was making some money I bought myself a GMT II and had a Jubilee bracelet put on it. What a pain! There are rules, y’see. Rolex won’t sell an accessory that they don’t offer on a watch. How pretentious. I did find a new, genuine Rolex Jubilee bracelet and the correct endpieces from a dealer who was willing to bend the rules. It looks great. Come on, Rolex; we’re talking middle-of-the-road watches here, not works of art!

My 1970s-vintage Sub’s winding stem came out, and since I’m underemployed I haven’t been able to get it fixed. I also have a c.1961 “pointy crownguard” Sub on a “James Bond” grey and black NATO strap that I want to sell when I get around to it.

For the longest time I wanted a Breitling Navimeter. I decided the face was too small though. Now I’d really like an Omega Speedmaster “Moon Watch” (the official watch of NASA). When I’m not wearing the GMT II, I like to wear a 1974 Seiko Bell-Matic identical to my dad’s (which I’ve put away). I totally dig the alarm. I have dad’s Vulcain Cricket, but I never wear it.

Dad’s Seiko Bell-Matic. This is dad’s watch. The one I wear is identical to it.

Rolex GMT II. This is not my actual watch, but mine looks like the one on the left. The image is one that I put together to see how my watch would look with the Jubilee bracelet.

I’ve got a Bucherer 251.920 chronograph (none of those artificially English model names for me!) which has been a massive pain in maintenance terms, but looks terrific…

You gotta work with them and be patient, not to mention the jeweler costs, to a point where you gotta want to own the watch for something other than logical or intrinsic value.

My advice, and that I followed, is to chunk the bastard and get a Tag.

Or the classic Swiss Railways Watch, I really like mine.

Mine cost 5 bucks in a Japanese convenience store. I bet it tells the same time as ones that cost a thousand times as much, too.

I thought about it. Turns out Bucherer watches share the Tag movements anyway.
